Default 2015 IIHF WJC Prelim Round Day 6: NYE Afternoon delight - Eichel vs McDavid

Warning: The USA vs Canada game will be played at 2pm MT. This is at the request of the Canadians so they can travel to Toronto right after the game.

Last day of the preliminary round. Four matchups - all that will impact the seeding for the quarterfinals. The top 4 teams in each group will advance to the quarterfinals in A1 vs B4, A2 vs B3, B1 vs A4 and B2 vs A3. The bottom team in each group will face each other in a best of 3 relegation round.

Of course the game the media is hyping is USA vs Canada, Eichel vs McDavid. The game does feature the consensus top 2 picks in the upcoming draft and very likely the only time they face each other before they don NHL silks. However Eichel and McDavid aside, almost everytime USA and Canada face each other in this tournament, the game becomes a classic.

Just a few examples of how crazy things could get: it is possible the winner of USA vs Canada could face the Russians in the quarterfinals. It is also possible that Finland as the defending gold medal champs could end up in the relegation round.

TV Info:
All games will be live on TSN 1,2,3,4 and/or 5.

For Americans, most if not all games will be shown on NHL Network but some games may be tape delayed. Note the Canadian version of NHL network will not show any games.

Streaming Info:
All games should be available by stream using TSN Go. TSN Go requires a username and password from whatever service provider you pay to get TSN.

Also note that all USA games will be streamed on nhl.com for free, but that stream will be blocked to non-US ip addresses

Flames Prospects!
The only player the Flames have the rights to at this tournament is:
*** Russia Defenceman #7 Rushan Rafikov (7th round pick 2013) ***
Rafikov is 3rd in defenceman scoring behind CAN Madison Bowey and SWE Gustav Forsling

The Canadians have made an interesting choice and have named Eric Comrie as their starting goaltender against the Americans.

Looking forward to this. Excited to see the McEichel show.

I thought Comrie looked good in his game, though this will be the first real test i think.

Go Canada!

Going to be a great hockey day!

Flames v. Oilers tonight, Canada v. USA World Jr. this afternoon, and I'm kicking things off re-watching the Canada v. USA semi-final from the Olympics.

So if Germany beats Finland and Russia beats Czech Rep, it would be Finland vs Czech for regulation? oof.

Sweden is owning the Swiss not surprisingly.

Swiss have taken some really stupid penalties.

What makes a man turn Neutral? Lust for Gold? Power? Or were they just born with a heart full of neutrality?

Does anybody else use the tsn go app for iPad? I have been watching the juniors via the app but today I am not getting any video. Just curious if it is just my app or if the app in general is having issues.

Hmmm, I used it yesterday and it was fine. I reinstalled it, shut the iPad off, swore, stomped around in a fit and nothing has changed except that I am tired,

Almost forgotten how Canadian WJC tournament highlights from the last decade sounds like a Pierre McGuire orgasm fest.

oh come on Montreal:

Mike Harrington @BNHarrington
There were apparently still tickets available today at the box office for USA-Canada. Which is a stunner to me.

The tiebreaker is funny sometimes. Switzerland could finish third, fourth, or fifth in their pool depending on what happens in the Russia-Czechia game.

Switzerland loses a two-team tiebreaker against Denmark, but wins a three-team tiebreaker against the Czechs and Denmark.

If the Czechs win in regulation, they'll get the second seed in group B, and bump the Swiss down to fifth with Denmark getting fourth. If the Czechs lose, Denmark gets third and Switzerland gets fourth. If the Czechs win in OT/SO, then it becomes a three-way tie and the Czechs still finish last, but Switzerland and Denmark would flip positions, with the Swiss getting third and the Danes getting fourth.

Don't tickets start at over $100 per?

That's a lot of NYE drinking your average fan would have to forego, particularly if they're also buying tickets for someone else too.

I have a lot of friends that were hoping to catch games with their kids/families. it's just too expensive for the average person to bring your family to a game.
