Default Dreger - AHL In Calgary, Edmonton, SJ and LA

All speculation from Dreger

AHL sources won't divulge details, however, a west division comprised of LA, Ana, SJ, Cal and Edm is expected to launch for 2015.
Not sure how that would work if ADK has the rights to the flames, It be cool to watch our prospects in Calgary though.

Those are the parent clubs of the teams that make up the west division, not the location of the teams.

It won't be in Calgary. It is all about a west division the AHL is rumored to be creating for the last 2 years by western conference teams putting their affiliates in western cities.

basically talked about here:

Wouldn't VAN be a part of that too and set up their team in Abbotsford? Or are they still under contract in Utica?

Doesn't Edmonton already have an AHL team called the Oilers?

(I'm here all week folks...)

Yeah, the Oilers terminated their affiliation with OKC.

The Edmonton Oilers announced today they are ending affiliation with Prodigal, operators of the Oilers’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Oklahoma City Barons at the end of the 2014-15 season.

No, I think everybody got it.

But it just so happens that the Oilers released a statement today that they've terminated their contract with their AHL affiliate which is also relevant to the thread.

Exactly, those markets can only bear so much.

If they have to stay out of WHL territory, there's not too many cities left to support an AHL team out west. Grande Prairie and Fort Mac?

Fort Mac seems logical, they have a new arena don't they?

it likely won't be Canada except maybe the Canucks to Abbotsford.

You are looking for ECHL cities that will swap their ECHL franchise for an AHL one, like Salt Lake City.

I also posted in the Backburner thread that the Flames have reportedly expressed interest in Las Vegas (now dead because the NHL is now exploring expansion there).

Today Jim Lites (President of the Dallas Stars), said the Flames have expressed interest in putting an AHL team in Houston.

Question on context - did Lites indicate that the Flames have a present interest in putting a team in Houston, or is he saying the Flames previously (i.e.: before signing a three-year deal with Glens Falls) have an interest?
