He'll be a beast over there. Always puts up good numbers. Never really had a fair shake at the stick in Calgary, but was very important for the Heat.
Good luck Chad!

Great in the AHL, mediocre to poor in the NHL. KHL is a step up in competition from the AHL, so this might be the best thing for his development to try and crack an NHL squad in a couple years. His size and lack of physicality will be an issue for him unless he works on bulking up.
Good luck Chad!

I think he was with the team for 10 games but dressed for only a handful. From what I remember, he was pretty terrible.

No he played in 10 games over 2 callups I believe. 3 assists, minus 3.

I was a fan of Billins. Didn't suit the Burke mould so the writing was on the wall. A total Feaster pickup, small and skilled. Curious to see if he makes his way back to the NHL at some point.
Best of luck Billins.

Probably the best option for him. He wasn't ever going to play in the NHL full time.

I didn't mind Billins during those 10 games, but he was too similar in style to Russell and Brodie to be a 3rd pairing guy.
Wotherspoon sprinted past him quickly. Now that Sieloff is healthy again as well, the writing is on the wall for Billins.

No biggie. More time for Culkin, Kulak etc.

I believe in the Jays.

To bad we're losing him, he has some potential. Best of luck to him, I imagine financially this makes the most sense for him. I believe we'll still maintain his rights so there is that and hopefully he'll come back in a year or two improved and challange for a spot.

Good move by Billins. Make some good money and play at a higher level. Let's face it, he would have been lucky to get 10 games with the flames this year. Wotherspoon is probably the first call up when injuries start to happen.

How do you think this impacts the Heat? By my count they will have:
Wotherspoon
Sieloff
Culkin
Kulak
Ramage
Lafranchise
Cundari (RFA - if he gets qualified)
The main returnees would be Wotherspoon, Lafranchise, Ramage, and possibly Cundari. Breen and Smith are both UFA. I don't believe Martin will be re-signed and I think Lamb is un-signed as well? O'Brien is the wildcard as I am not sure what will happen with him.
I'd like to see the prospects get more ice time but I wouldn't mind another veteran dman to stabilize the group there.

That's unfortunate - he was a great guy to have in the A. Could quarterback the PP and put up really good numbers. He was never going to be an NHLer tough, and I guess the A wasn't enough for him.
Oh well, opportunities for some of the other kids now.
Best of luck to him.

Can't blame him for taking the money in the KHL. Not going to get rich playing in the AHL. He was a decent asset to have as a guy in the minors you could call up and he could contribute and fill out a PP.

The question now becomes, does Calgary tender him a qualifying offer to retain his rights? Looking back at the Giordano timeline, it might be a smart move.

Billins is a smaller, weaker, less physical version of Giordano. Don't waste a qualifying offer on a career AHLer/KHLer. If anything Cundari is more like a Giordano type player.
