Radcliffe, given his singular nickname by sports writer Damon Runyon after catching Satchel Paige in the first game of a doubleheader in the 1932 Negro League World Series and pitching a shutout in the second game, died from complications after a long bout with cancer, the Chicago White Sox said.

Im sure a few of you remember ole Double Duty!

Good to see he made it to 103....can you imagine the changes this man saw in his lifetime?

He was 18 years old in 1930.

Census of USA population was 123 million. Its now about 300 million.

Life expectancy for a male was 58.1 and for a female 61.6 years of age.

There were 21 lynchings in the southern USA states.

Unemployment rate was 25% in America. Its about 5% or so right now.

Hobos were riding the rails, Hitler won 95 seats in German elections, Pope Pius XI condemned contraception, the first plastic was invented in 1932, television was just a thought. Radio was a big deal. The Great Depression was raging, the Okie Migration to California had started, people took boats to Europe, Amelia Earhart was still alive, Jesse Owens had yet to run in Berlin, the Empire State Building was under construction, Dick and Jane schoolbooks teaching literacy appeared in 1931, Monopoly board game had yet to be invented . . . .

And then all the stuff after that.
