Default Burke: Treliving is authorized to spend to cap

Quote:
"The only reason we haven’t been a cap team so far is we haven’t seen the value. But the second we do, (general manager) Brad Treliving is authorized to go right to the cap."
Quote:
Burke was asked if he was surprised the Flames have been so much better than their provincial rivals, the Edmonton Oilers.

"No," he said.

I thought this was common knowledge. There is no need to right now, but as these players grow into their next contracts they'll need raises, there may be some trades with cap strapped teams, free agent signings.

I always figured the Flames will be a cap team again, but will try to go about it as smart as possible.

surprised he kept it civil as I thought he would have jumped at the chance to throw an insult at the coil. I guess it's just another example of how the Flames are better.

I would love to see some additions to the Flames. I just don't see there being much value out there for us though.

Haha...'no.'

I think he took this job just to piss Kevin Lowe off. And I love it.

He and Kev have the same title and position for rival teams, one is a dumpster fire and one looks like they might make the playoffs.

I think thats another win for Burke.

He hates Kevin Lowe. He really just hates him.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does Burke not have beef with Clowe?

Yup. Saving it for some of our RFAs in the next few years.

I think the Flames have always had a green light from ownership to be a 'cap team' even in the first year of the rebuild. Remember King and Feaster talking about this. Good to see that the owners are willing to spend, but also not pushing to spend either.

I recall the rumours that Burke once rented a barn in upstate New York in order to have a fistfight with Kevin Lowe.

MacT on Burkie:

He reminds me of the Wizard of Oz," said MacTavish. "You comb his hair, put a white shirt on, wheel him out in front of the camera and he'll say whatever you guys want.

Clearly it's a crusade of self-promotion on his part. But what goes around comes around in this league."

It certainly is coming around, eh MacT?

Don’t be silly. Visually, MacT is a much better GM than Burke ever was.

Because you know, it isn’t about the team you put on the ice. It’s about how neatly you tie your tie.

At one of the season ticket events in the summer Burke/Treliving said they were authorized to "go the cap or beyond", which I think meant spend compliance buy out money if they could get a good asset for picking up another teams bad contract.

Thats hilarious! It must be an old quote because MacT really shouldnt talk about how to behave in front of the media after that dumpster-fire of a press conference.

If hes going to criticize Burke's tie he should learn to put his glasses on properly, he must have fidgeted with his glasses a dozen times. I guess they just dont teach that kind of stuff at the University of Phoenix.

Clearly, Oilers tickets are a better value for the money, because they are spending to the cap to produce that godawful gong show of a team. Right?

(And no, nobody is going to spare you ‘the supply and demand crap’. We aren’t going to spare you the gravity crap, either, or the laws of thermodynamics crap. Things work the way they work. The universe is not obliged to take your opinion into account.)

Well considering the dome isn't actually selling out this year the supply & demand argument would work in your favor...
