Presentation on why the Oilers are screwed
Hey there CP, I have been reading this site for a long time as it's a great source of NHL news as well as other current events and just funny #### in general. I must confess that I'm an oiler fan but this site is miles ahead of any oilers site I have visited even when it comes to good news about the oilers. I have the task of a 10 minute presentation on an personal point of view and I have chosen why the oilers will continue to suck until fundamental changes are made. I am trying to get all my facts together and I though who better to ask than the CP community (the enemy) for help. So far i have this rough outline.
Daryl Katz - buddies with the old boys club and hires staff not b/c of qualifications but personal relationships, forcing Nail Yakupov to be drafted instead of Ryan Murray, the trip to Seattle when arena negotiations weren't going well, seems to care more about profit and butts in the seats then actual on ice product, fans being taken to the basement because of signs costumes etc
Kevin Lowe - hired MacT as GM after he was fired as a coach (who does that!!!!!), infamous press conference - 2 tiers of fans and the I know a little about winning comment (just because you won Stanley cups with the greatest player to play the game doesn't mean you know how to run a team)
Craig Mactavish - fires ralph krueger over skype, promises bold moves (still waiting on those)
Player Decisions & development - Rushing young players into the NHL before they are ready, drafting players who are BPA and not what the team needs, too many small wingers not enough quality centre's and defencemen
Locker room - Young guns run the show and are untouchable, room is divided, players comments after leaving the organization (i can't really remember who these were) nashville comments about how dubnyk had been taught horrible habits, perron on trading block for suggesting changes need to be made.
So that is what I have so far....any suggestions or helpful links would be greatly appreciated. Judging by the Edmonton is no good thread many of you should be able to point out anything I have missed lol

I think that the love affair with the 80's is at the core of the problem. It led to over-(self) valuation of Lowe and MacT.
Until that Chapter is closed in mind of the Oiler front office problems will trickle down from the top.

Are you going to present it to Dallas Eakins? Otherwise I think you'll be preaching to a choir

The Oilers are not screwed; they are NO GOOD! Given that truism, please refer to the existing E=NG thread for all facts, opinions, and hilarities to support your position.

It's the only time you'll see Oilers at the top of a page.

It would be a better presentation if some pictures were involved. Maybe a power-point or something.

Respect to you for coming onto CP with an open mind on our opinions. Seems like you have a good handle on the oilers' problems.
All I could add and you may have already covered it with some of your outline above is a lack of decent drafting/scouting/developing of players and prospects. This goes with both first round picks and, more importantly, everyone picked outside of the first round.
Sorry to use the flames as an example cause I'm sure it's already tough coming onto a flames thread but... I look at the flames' depth that they have developed in prospects and young players through later picks or smart acquisitions and see a stark contrast with the oilers. Granlund, Brodie, jooris, gaudreau, colborne, Byron, Wotherspoon, ferland, etc. are all becoming impact players for this organization and weren't picked by the flames in the first round. They have all been developed patiently so far and properly. I don't know as much about the oilers' prospects obviously but I'm confident from their roster and call-ups that they haven't created a deep pool of guys like this who are all pushing to be full time NHLers (if they aren't already one). That is a terrible record of developing young players considering how many picks the oiler have had over the years.

No the flames are a great example and one I will probably use. I will definitely talk about how the oilers have an abundance of so called skill but are severely lacking in the heart department

It looks like all you've done is lined up some evidence. Do you intend to draw conclusions about it? If so, what are they?

Your presentation should be quick and easy.
A photograph of a steaming pile of crap should sum it up nicely.

Does the incentive structure that encourages tanking for high draft picks play a role in the no goodness?

Why are people so obsessed with the oilers on this forum?
Do you hate the oilers more than you love the flames ?

Until the Oilers start looking at the current state as a 'top down' problem, the hilarity will continue. The one in a position to change things is Katz, as he can replace Lowe with a good hockey operations person, and he (or she) can take care of the rest. If they can get a John Davidson, or Brian Burke type of person in that position, I can see the fallout being something along the lines of Micheal Futa as GM, Dan Bylsma as coach and Eberle traded to break up the room. This is the level of massive culture change that is needed to pull the Oilers out of the mess that they are in. (The names that I selected are completely out of a hat)
There are character guys there like Ferance, Gordon and Perron, who are so fed up they would pay for their own train ticket out. The solution is not 'bottom up'.
But none of this will ever happen, which is why the Edmonton is No Good thread will continue to be a great source of humour and cathartic fun for the next decade or so. Good luck with your report.

The guy asked for opinions and points to make on a topic against the oilers... Instead most of you are just being sarcastic.
I know there's a "oilers are no good" thread but he's trying to come up with some summed up points rather the having to sift through all if that thread for them.
