Flames Update: Treliving confirms Flames will work towards getting Hartley re-signed

per the latest insider trading:
http://www.tsn.ca/video/insider-trad...arded-1.134480

Dreger says the negotiations will begin in the days or weeks ahead.

said it was just a matter of Treliving to get to know Hartley

update:
Treliving confirms that Hartley is his man:

http://www.calgarysun.com/2014/11/14...ley-is-his-man

Quote:
Treliving said the two haven’t talked numbers yet, but it’s just a matter of sitting down and getting it done.

As Treliving is now forthright about, he is convinced Hartley is the right man to follow through on this rebuild and Hartley wants to continue on the impressive path he’s paved so far.

“No rush but we’re talking,” Treliving said.

“I would suspect we’re going to get there.”

Good to hear. Hartley has been amazing for the Flames and I hope he stays for a while.

I'd bet that the discussions began awhile ago. I'd like to see 3 years.

I still don't understand what the rush is..

One year extension is what I would offer.

So if this gets done, will there be anything left to complain about?

Not enough youth. Tons getting a taste of nhl.
Gaudreau not on pp. is now.
Hartley no extension. Pending

Not bad considering we are a month into the season.

A 1-yr deal would be horrible, IMO. That'd be a huge slap of disrespect to Hartley and staff...

Give him 3 years, and if it isn't working out in 18 months... it's not like there's a lot of term to pay out to Hartley if you'd like to replace him.

Hartley has led the Flames to 25th and 27th place finishes.

He has done some solid things with the Flames, but im not sure we would of finished any worse without him as the coach the best two seasons.

Id personally wait until the end of this season to offer a new contract.

That's fair. Although I'd argue that he inherited a sinking ship, and both he and Treliving are aware of that.

I believe his job this last year has been to turn around the culture of this club, and he seems to be doing a great job, and I get the feeling we can finally start looking up again.

Most entertaining 27th place ever though

Maybe not Hartley's first year here. The team underperformed and Hartley had a strike shortened season to break bad habits from the previous regime. He just didn't have enough time to turn it around in half a year.

But there is no way that the Flames would have finished better last year without Hartley behind the bench. Not a chance.

Brent Sutter got way better results (16th, 17th and 17th) and most fans were glad to see him leave. The overall record doesn't even tell a tenth of the whole story and you know it.

Hartley deserves a 2 or 3 year extension, his work in Calgary has been outstanding.

Really? That's a odd statement to make when the Oilers/Sabres and Panthers were the only teams to finish ahead of the Flames.

Im not saying another coach could of made the Flames finish higher, just saying its a possibility.

I think Hartley has got an easy pass as the Flames coach so far.

That's great news.

IMO he should get a 3 year term, this shows he has earned it and that the management shows confidence in him. If it doesn't work out, like stated above, they move on.
