Flames Assistant GM Mike Holditch resigns

Roger Millions ‏@RogMillions
Hearing #Flames Sr. VP and Asst. General Mgr Michael Holditch has surprisingly resigned from the organization. Long time guy #best of luck.

Roger Millions ‏@RogMillions
Michael was a great servant of the #Flames thru some tough times. I wish him well . Had some huge challenges

Pat Steinberg ‏@Fan960Steinberg
Holditch was with the #Flames for two decades, through some highs and lows. Wish him well in his future endeavours.

Maybe just looking at new opportunities elsewhere. He's been there quite a while.

Wow, I consider myself a pretty big Flames fan and had no idea he was even part of the organization.

Would he have been the one to review the ROR contract offer? I know people like to blast Feaster for that one, but it sounds like that falls right in his wheelhouse.

Regardless, I wish him all the best (assuming he's not moving up to Edmonton).

His job is mostly to figure out the financial side like if they sign a player, will he fit in the salary cap. If a player fits, then he'll help the GM.

He was elevated to a more prominent role around contracts when Sutter became the GM in summer 2003. When the cap got implemented in 2005, he took that on too.

He's also the guy commonly having been seen sitting beside Sutter, King, or Feaster in the old press box cam shot from Sportsnet...at 51 seconds, here he is at the back next to the TV's clapping for the video tribute to Iginla the first game after he was traded, while Feaster cleans his teeth and Wisebrod sits on his hands, both pretty unimpressed.

Good luck to him. Hes one of the quiet but important behind-the-scenes cogs that make everything work.

I wonder how Burke and Treliving go about replacing him. Does Brad Pascall take on some of Holditch's role or will they bring in a new guy?

Conroy would most likely take over a lot of it since Pascall is busy with the farm team. Without Holditch they still have two guys that have the Assistant GM title (Conroy and Pascall). Plus, it's not like Treliving is an idiot when it comes to this stuff.
