Could turn out to a be a good contract, but there's always a risk and that's why bridge deals exist. Sometimes you get a steal with one of these deals and sometimes you end up with a guy like Cody Hodgson where you're paying over $4M for the next 5 years to a player with 2 points in 23 games.

Gallagher has the heart of a lion and has skill in all the tough areas. That is unlikely to change
Cody has skill only when the cost is very low. That is unlikely to change.

Couple of notes, re: Gallagher. Quick negotiation, 2-3 weeks, both team and player wanted to get it done. No no-trade at any point in deal.
