Notes from Nov 28 Practice - Ramo to start against Phoenix
- Judging by the lines reported by media, one of or both Baertschi and Knight will be healthy scratched tomorrow as they were the extras on the forward lines
- McGrattan might play tomorrow
Quote:
Aaron Vickers @AAVickers
#Flames lines mixed a bit, but:
Byron-Granlund-Ferland;
Bollig-Bouma-McGrattan;
Glencross-Monahan-Jones;
Gaudreau-Jooris-Hudler
Aaron Vickers @AAVickers
Knight took reps with Bollig and McGrattan and Baertschi with Byron and Jooris, too, so be warned. #Flames
Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
#Flames forwards at practice:
Glencross-Monahan-Jones
Gaudreau-Jooris-Hudler
Ferland-Granlund-Byron
Bollig-Bouma-McGrattan
Baertschi-Knight
Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
#Flames defence at practice:
Giordano-Brodie
Russell-Wideman
Smid-Engelland/Diaz
|
no word on who is starting in net yet, but expect that soon

Weird. Baertschi seems to be playing pretty well recently.

Kinda missed seeing ol' Grats in the lineup. I don't have a problem with that against the Yotes. I like those lines. Don't feel nervous about any of the potential matchups with the way they've been made.
Man, I hate 3 day breaks.

I hope we get a couple if the injured vets back quickly here. I'd prefer to see Knight and Baertschi getting big minutes in Adirondack.

Putting more muscle on each line. The JG/MG/JH line was skilled but not that tough. Jooris is a tad tougher, and can still keep up.
I like a Ferland-Granlund combo, too. And Byron seems to be able to fit anywhere.
Unfortunately for Sven, he just doesn't fit the 4th line style, so it'd be a matter of him beating out Ferland (who I thought played a fantastic game) or playing off wing instead of Byron (who had his best game).

Jooris is balls-to-the-wall insane. Hes tough and really fast. Hes been causing all kinds of hell for our opposition.
He is rapidly developing into my favourite player this season. Outside of the obvious ones of course.

The most impressive thing for me isn't just his energy, its his decision making, his hockey IQ. In the games I've seen, its been virtually flawless. I am seriously struggling to think of an occasion, even a small one, where I've thought "Jooris made the wrong call there" or thought he could have done better. Lets be honest, fast high energy players are a dime a dozen at this level. What makes Jooris stand out is his intelligence and how he goes about his business on the ice. So happy that he's come from nowhere to take his chance.

Fresh off of a 32-save shutout of #Sharks on Wednesday, Karri Ramo will start for #Flames tomorrow vs. #Coyotes. Ramo has won 3 straight.

Completely agree, he makes great decisions at full speed.

Those lines tweeted from #Flames practice? Don't read too much into them. Hartley said there's nothing set for tomorrow's lineup.

Hartley: “We didn’t make any decisions yet. We had four guys on one line and four other guys on the other line. There’s no decisions."

Not really. The Flames have decided to go with more muscle (whether you feel that's the right move is totally debatable), so given that's the case, who besides Bollig or McGratts would you say Sven's outplayed in that line up?
Sven can't keep his spot in the line up by being better than Bollig, because they provide different things, he needs to earn a spot in our top 9. Not meant to be a critique, he's been playing well, but I wouldn't swap out a single player in our Top 9 on those lines for Sven at this very moment.

From experience with Hartley I'd expect the same lineup as against the Sharks.

I absolutely agree. He's such a unique player in that he seems to excel at everything really.
So much so that if I read the line combinations before a game, I would completely buy if he was listed on any of the 4 lines. He's just that versatile.

I doubt Sven gets scratched, he started getting shifts late in the San Jose game and played around different lines. He looked like a responsible player out there.

Forgot about the Ferland-Granlund chemistry early on. That line could be good. I think Granlund was having a tougher time facing 2nd line opposition against the Ducks and Sharks. Him and Ferland should be able to feast on the Yotes in a depth role.
