I thought about getting a second job to clear debt once. Instead, I set it up to look liked I died in a boating accident. Now I live debt free.
Hope that helps.

Does anyone have any suggestions of decent paying temporary jobs that would fit the bill for someone looking to work after 5 and still be home by midnight to go to work at 9 again (ugh just typing that out sounds like a nightmare)?
I'm not desperate or anything, I'll be fine if I don't work a second job, I just want to clear this debt up as fast as possible. That being said, I'm not going to sacrifice all of my free time for a measly few hundred bucks bi-weekly like a retail job would result in. I know delivering pizza was an awesome way to make money on the side back in University but since my car is out of commission that's not an option. Serving or bartending is most likely out as I need to be home by midnight so I can go to work the next day.
So yeah, if anyone has any suggestions they would be much appreciated. Maybe I'm out to lunch though, so let me know!

Is there the possiblity of extra work at your current job?

Xmas season - probably lots of temporary retail work out there.
Xmas Tree lot?

Unfortunately not. Desk job that pays salary.

Maybe a waiter/serving job? Many hotels/event centres are hiring extra serving staff for the holiday busy season. Flexible hours and good money to be made for sure.

Have you asked?
I know my company, and others, pay OT for employees that work OT.
Just a thought, the answer might be closer than you think.

Try temp agencies they can point you to evening work.
For example bank clearing houses need evening people to clear cheques.
Or FEDEX/UPS needs people to input bills or sort packages for international delievery.

There are plenty of restaurants that could easily allow you to be home before midnight. I worked in restaurants for over a decade and could probably count the number of times I worked until midnight on two hands. You just have to choose the right type of restaurant. I would usually get there around 5/5:30, and leave around 10 and could pull anywhere between $100-250 depending on how busy it was. (Not including wage)
I'm not sure what your experience level is, as that would obviously impact where you could work, but there are plenty of options.

Don't know how much money you need, but for a fun second job (won't get much money out of it, but still better than nothing) you could think about being a hockey official. Just checked, there is a clinic this weekend at Mount Royal to get certified, you could be officiating games by next week. get around 30 bucks a game, most games are evenings and weekends so wouldn't interfere with your job, plus being on the ice is fun! Just need to not care about crazy parents.

I've never served before so I'd be a complete rookie (Hah at 25 too) but that's definitely something to consider. I have a few friends in the industry though so I could probably look into that, they just work at bars though so that's why I didn't give it to much thought.
I'm going to reach out to some temp agencies as well.
Keep the ideas coming guys! I really appreciate them as they're helping me get out of this bind

I just had a chat with my manager about something like this and he said he'd let me know if he hears anything like this but like I thought, there really isn't the opportunity for "extra work" out of our head office and all of our mills are too far outside of Calgary to work.
It was worth a shot though!

Try to get hired with Futureshop/Best buy for their seasonal work. Decent commissions, though for example, if you get hired on in Home theatre, and will make u sell 40" or less (less commission) and even if you sell anything higher than 40" they will make you give it to a guy who worked there for longer/non seasonal (where the real money is). ####ING hated that ####.

What do you do for a day job? Can you transfer any of those skills into evening work on the side? Wouldn't hurt to do something that can help your career and wallet at the same time.

Logistics/Supply Chain so I'm hopeful these temp agencies will have some opportunities in that field. For example, a warehouse job or dock hand to get some "on the floor" experience wouldn't hurt.
The hours just have to make sense and it has to be worth my time.
