I think you can get a USB network cable, that would work like a cross over CAT 5 cable.
So you just plug it into the USB ports, and you should be able to transfer files etc from computer to laptop.

Transfering email to your laptop:
It should be about the same for any client, you want to export all your emails to a file.
Transfer that file to the laptop, then use your mail client on the laptop to import the email.

You just have to make sure that the file that is exported, can be imported by the email client.

Just put the other computer on the network and enable file sharing. Or you can do it with a cross over cable directly.

I just bought a router too, so I assume that would be the 'network'? Would that be slower than the USB technique? [/b][/quote]
Nope, it's actualy pretty damn fast. Just make sure you have both PC's plugged into the router and both computers have network connections. From there you enable sharing on your main pc, then on your other pc search for the shared network drive (In Windows Explorer go to Toolds/Map network drive".

Also make sure you enable "File and print sharing" and click "Allow users to change my files"

then once you're done, unshare your drive just to be safe.

Pretty much what Jordon said, alternatively, you can use the File and Settings Transfer Wizard under Accessories-->System Tools in your Start menu Program list. This works best if you bought a new computer but don't want to lose anything from your old computer. You will also need a PC-to-PC cable for this to work.

You have to share your C: drive.
Right click on the C: drive, select properties, click the sharing tab.
Select "Share" click ok or apply.

for the email bit, are you using outlook?

If so you can copy the .pst file onto the laptop and access everything without any importing and exporting.

Not sure how it works switching back and forth though.
