Default Chinese Government asks NHL to play regular season game in China

@mirtle: "Chinese government officials have asked the NHL to stage a regular-season game in China as early as next season." http://t.co/AjjrPInYfw/s/WNk1

Maybe teams 31 and 32 will be Beijing and Shanghai

I know the Chinese have some human rights issues, but even they deserve better than being forced to be Leafs fans.

I'd give them four Oilers - Sabres games as punishment for the occupation of Tibet.

Holy crap, I might even be willing to make the trip to the mainland to see an NHL game in China.

Why a regular season game? Pre-season is good enough.

They clearly want to clone the players and start selling a cheaper NHL product

Just a thought but if this happens, would china insist on the players wearing knock-off jerseys???

That is another good reason for sending out Oilers and Sabres
(so that the fake will be obvious)

I say go for it. Not everything needs to be political.

If they are reaching out to be exposed to something that is part of Western culture (for the most part), then it is probably a good thing.

Personally, I think they should do it. If they're ASKING for it then they will probably pull out all the stops. Could be good publicity for the league.

Cue political "the NHL shouldn't go cause of Tibet/Human Right Issues/Pollution..." posts... It's a hockey game. The NHL going or not going will have zero effect on any political issues.

Why NHL vs KHL? They have closer ties with Russia, no?

Still though, this would be cool to see.

Would any team even want to go? Any teams that head over during the regular season are going to be affected by jet lag and the extended travel. I just can't see any GM of a team willing to put his team at a disadvantage like that when points are so valuable.

Just like any sport, China will try to completely dominate it. Hockey is next!

In 2050 on Saturday night in April, the Tibetan Warriors take on the Hong Kong Victorians to advance to the round of 128 in the global NHL playoffs.

If the NHL players go to Korea for the Olympics it would be fairly easy to arrange for a few games in China before the Olympic break.
