Default Flames among those suspected of tanking, says Toronto Star

Which just proves -- again -- that the centre of the universe loses all sense of reality once you cross the boundaries of the GTA.

Hey Toronto Star -- the Flames haven't even HAD a losing streak this year. WOudl it hurt you to try a little harder?

Honestly our roster is pretty tanky. We just punch above our weight class, way above it.

I know they don't watch the west. But did they even bother to check the standings????

Are we reading the same article? I don't see anywhere that says we are suspected of tanking.

The Toronto Star probably looked at our roster last night and didn't do their research.

They didn't realize we were missing Raymond/Stajan/Backlund/Colborne/Ferland.

Edit - After looking at the article, I don't think they are accusing the Flames of tanking.

They're grouping us with the losers people have suspected of tanking:

"Whenever a team goes on a losing streak – Buffalo, Carolina, **Calgary,** Phoenix, even Toronto – a segment of the fan base starts calculating the odds of getting one of the top picks to build around Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel or Noah Hanafin."

A. Calgary has not been on a losing streak this year

B. Anyone with their ear to anything other than the Leafs PR office knows the Flames are one of the surprise success stories of the early part of the season.

Dude has no business lumping Calgary in with the others, either factualyl or otherwise.

He probably meant to say Edmonton but got confused, which is even more pathetic.

1. Yes we have been on a losing streak.

2. It is irrelevant anyways because you have misread the article big time. We aren't suspected of tanking and no where in the article does it say we have been suspected of tanking.

Misleading thread title is misleading.

Given that we have threads like this, I don't think it's inaccurate at all to say "Some Flames fans are talking about it". Mainly because... well they are.

What an incredibly poor blog. First problem, the subtitle is the exact same(overly long) sentence that is then repeated word for word in the blog. Second problem, they can't spell Hanifin's name right, they spell it Hanafin. Third problem, its not Pheonix anymore, its Arizona. Fourth problem, the article is apparently about tanking, but after 7 lines, it becomes yet another blog about how amazing the top 3 draft picks are.

Seriously, did Kevin McGran buy his journalism qualifications off Ebay?

I don't think we've lost more than back to back games this year. 2 games isn't a losing streak.

Oh please, you can't tell me losing 2 games in a row(one via a SO) constitutes a streak in your book? It has to be 3-5 games minimum.

losing streak

In sports, a losing streak is an uninterrupted string of contests (whether games, matches, etc.) lost by a team or individual. A losing streak can last as few as two games, or it may last much longer. A losing streak and a winless streak are distinctively different, as a winless streak may include:

You used wiki as your source and you expect to be taken seriously?

Oh and why don't you quote this bit too:

"The examples and perspective in this article deal primarily with North America and do not represent a worldwide view of the subject. Please improve this article and discuss the issue on the talk page. (August 2010)"

I am not from North America, hence why I would dispute 2 games being called a streak. We'll agree to disagree I think.

Yeah if anything this article is proof the Toronto Star is reading Calpuck.

Source? What source? Its an opinion or perspective or a certain part of the world, as your source clearly states. In my opinion, I don't believe 2 games is enough to constitute a streak. You clearly do, but tried(and failed) to back your opinion up with a weak ass wiki source as if it was fact.

Like I said, we'll agree to disagree. You say it is, I say it isn't. There is no hard and fast rule to say what is and isn't. Either way, lets just both agree the article is terrible.
