Why haven't the Flames offered Hartley a contract extension yet?
I just don't understand why? Is it because we have an new GM this year and a new President of Hockey Operations last year and neither one of them signed Hartley to his current contract?
Come on guys! Give Hartley a contract extension (2 years would be fine with me). If anybody deserves an extension, its Hartley.
Hartley has the Flames playing the best hockey since Darryl was coach.

Because I believe Hartley and perhaps even Treliving said it would be a distraction to discuss contracts during the season. It can get taken care of after the season.

When Bob wants the contract, he will get the contract.

That's a cop out. If they both want a deal done it's not a distraction. Playing out the year without a renewal is a bigger distraction. My guess? No Hartley next year

Hartley might not be his hand picked guy, but it would be a major mistake for Treliving to replace him after this year. Along with the 2011 draft, this was Feaster's crowning achievement during his tenure as GM.

They probably don't care right now. Hartley's got to be thinking playoffs all day long.

Not everything is an outrage. A week ago apparently Hartely "didn't like Gaudreau" and was sabotaging him by playing him limited minutes etc.

I doubt players really care if Hartely signs now or in the off season. It's only a distraction when you have star players that have not re-signed and media asks other players every 10 minutes what they think.

IIRC Hartley didn't say they wouldn't discuss an extension, he just said that they won't talk about it in the media. I'd be shocked if there hadn't been any discussions between Treliving and Hartley already. Just because we don't hear about it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. My guess is that they'll extend his contract if he wants to stay, and I haven't seen anything that makes me think that he doesn't.

I am concerned that Treliving isn't going to bring Hartley back because he's not "his guy". I like Hartley and he's done wonders with this group in a short amount of time....

Also, coincidentally Mike Babcock is in the last year of his deal with Detroit.
It might not be completely out of the realm of possibility that they might want to keep that door open if the Wings and him can't come together and sign a contract.
Personally, I hope that Hartley is signed to a 3 year extension before the new year.

Maybe Hartely is holding out for now. If Hartely can get this group to the playoffs he should win the jack Adams . That award could get him some extra $ on his next contract.

Who says they are not having closed door discussions? Hartley said he was not going to discuss the negotiations with the media. If they do extend him the news will seem to come out of the blue.
