I basically want that except with these tiny RFID chips:

Then I can put them on everything I own, and then I can find the things that I don't use often instead of searching the entire house top to bottom.

Those need to be installed on every file in my office. No more losing files or searching the entire office to find it at the bottom of a stack in Bob's office. Wonder how long it will be until those things are cheap enough to use like that?

I assume it's working off bluetooth? You'd need a ton of those in the wild in order for it to find a lost item (150ft range). Great for keys though, I'd probably pick one up just for that.

Ordered some, but realized too late they only work with iDevices. Soooo I'll likely be reselling them unless my cancel order request went through.

Where the hell were these things when I was still living with my ex? She would walk around with the TV remote and randomly distribute it around the house.

That's why I want RFID dust to put on everything; replace "TV remote" with "everything" and "house" with "house, basement, storage, cars, and garage" and that's me.

In the video it showed someone logging into a web app from a blackberry and they mentioned that you can login to the tile app from any smartphone. Should be ok.

No android support it says. Would imagine it would come soon though. Android in general needs to catch up on Bluetooth support.

Attach 'em to my kids at the park....

Seems a bit pricey for $20 each, and then for each tile to only last a year?

^^yeah I missed that one year bit...

only works on IOS right now...

Frequently Asked Questions
  • What phones does Tile work with? Works with iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad Mini, iPad 3rd and 4th gen, and iPod Touch 5th gen. New iOS devices will be supported as they become available, as long as they have Bluetooth 4.0 support.
  • Does Tile work on Android, Windows Phone, or Blackberry? No, not at this time.
  • No Android support? At this time Android does not support Bluetooth 4.0. A few Android phone manufacturers have released BLE SDKs, however they are lacking in quality and stability. At Tile, the quality of our products is of utmost importance, and until there exists an Android platform that meets our quality standards, we will not be releasing a Tile app for Android.

The beauty of using Bluetooth means that anything valuable enough to be tiled, should be fairly easily located regardless of the security - if it's on the bluetooth spectrum, I can find it.

People aren't going to waste tiles on worthless stuff. Just sayin.

Bluetooth 4.0 was finally supported in Android 4.3 (as long as your device supports it - Nexus 4.0 - yes; Galaxy Nexus - no, etc)

I like the idea, especially for something like my kids laptop, since he tends to lose things or leave them where he shouldn't. His iPhone was already stolen when he left it in his classroom overnight. BUT, it looks as though you could just pull the Tile right off a laptop. How does it help then? Seems like functionality they should license to laptop manufacturers for situations like this, get it built right into the case of the machine. Either that or manufacturers should poach the idea.

I priced this out for office a year or two ago with existing technology and the cost was prohibitive.
Something like $15000 to setup and then an ongoing cost for the RFID chips.

When it comes down in price though we will go for it. It would be awesome to instantly find a file in the office or know if it has left the building so you can stop looking.
