Its tough being on IR when your team is on a roll. You can tell that guys like Stajan and Raymond are just itching to get back in the line-up.

Stajan back eh? For me, he slots onto the 4th line with Bollig and Bouma as the wingers. 1 player back, 3 to go.

At the time of the injuries, I never would have picked Stajan to be the first guy back.

Baertschi/Stajan/Bouma might actually do some damage.
Stajan's so versatile though. Depending on fitness, you could see him anywhere from 2-4 centre, or on someone's wing (Granlund's but maybe taking draws?).

I agree. But someone mentioned that the Ferland-Granlund-Byron line from last game was not going as good as it could be - Maybe Stajan centers that line?
Really for 1st game back I see him on the fourth line also.

Ok when the injuries all went down -- Raymond, Colborne, Backlund, Stajan -- who predicted Stajan would be the first to return??
Some were originally listed day to day. And Stajan's prognosis was 4-6 weeks. How long has it been anyway?

Exactly 5 weeks since he was placed on IR, so 5 weeks and a couple days since the injury.

I've also heard that Raymond is hoping to get clearance to play on Saturday so that will cause another chain of events. Certainly won't mind getting his speed back in there to go with our other burners.

I don't think it would hurt Granlund to sit a game in the pressbox to watch. Sven has started to look like an NHLer in his recent games with Bollig and Bouma. I wouldn't mind a line of Ferland/Byron/Sven. All 3 guys also have some chemistry.

5 weeks yesterday(28th Oct) was when his injury occurred, so pretty much bang on with with what the return estimates were. Good to see his injury and time of return were pretty much aligned. Not so much with the injuries to Raymond and Colborne, the latter being a bigger concern by the day.

Knight: probably not the showing he was hoping for. Didn't play all that much and didn't make a significant impact when he did.
Stajan: Very curious to see what happens with him. Do the Flames keep Monahan in the role of playing against other teams top lines, or does Stajan take over that role to improve Monahan's match-ups?

Agreed. Granlund seems to have leveled off. Lets not forget that 2 of his goals were of the flukey variety. I think he might have to go back to the AHL. I see that his brother isn't doing so great in Minny this year either. Makes me wonder about his upside...

They are two different people despite being related. Brent Gretzky not being able to cut it in the NHL didn't effect Wayne.

I think you have to keep playing Monahan against the tough match ups until he shows he can't. He was given an opportunity and ran with it, so it should be his to lose. If he stumbles then you slot Stajan back into those difficult assignments. In the mean time it would be nice to see what players like Granlund and Bennett can learn from him.
Having players like Stajan is what separates the Flames from the Oilers IMO. Edmonton doesn't have a player like that.

I think that is just it. If they can form a responsible shut down line to play against top scoring lines then it helps create a mismatch for Monahan's line.
