Default Underage players : 10 game threshold

It's been 3 weeks since the NHL started and we still have some underage players in some of the NHL line-up. How many of those will be back to their junior team before the 10 games and how many will stay?

First pick overall D Aaron Ekblad seems like he won't be back to his junior team. F Leon Draisaitl of Edmonton was rumoured to play 10 games or more. Others like Jonathan Drouin of Tampa Bay Lightning I think will stick around unless his play dropped off in the next few games. Washington's Andre Burakovsky looks good and has been playing as the Capitals' second-line centre, his natural position in junior is a winger.

What about Buffalo's Sam Reinhart, Nikita Zadorov, Curtis Lazar, Anthony Duclair and others? Who will stay and who will go back to junior? It is getting close to decision time for some of the coaches and GMs.

well Burakovsky can go to the AHL because he was drafted out of Europe ... that's what the Bruins have done with David Pastrnak

and with Duclair, Bobby Mac says that the 10 game threshold means nothing because his ELC won't slide in any case (that's the same rule that would have burned Poiriers 1st year if he hadn't signed his ELC prior to January 1, I believe). Might as well keep him in the NHL and loan him to the WJC

BTW, a couple of leftovers that didn't make my tsn.ca story: Even if NYR sent Duclair back to Jr, his 1st year of contract is burned anyway.

Duclair was signed after Jan. 1, so some different rules apply. In any case, his contract won't "slide".

Also, on Burakovsky, WSH can send him to Hershey of AHL, doesn't have to go back to junior. Was drafted out of SWE, so no Jr. obligation.

I haven't heard a peep about Ekblad this year. Anyone seen him play this year? How's he doing down in no man's land?

I've heard good things. Playing strong defensively.

Florida also only has 10 goals for in 7 games. He's assisted on 2 of them... a 40 point pace if 200 goals are projected.
