Default Control Windows 8 desktop from iOS?

I've got a windows desktop I want to use as a TV as well. Is there an app that will give me basic media controls as well as let me shut down the PC?

Maybe some kind of remote mouse app? Lots of what I see requires you installing something on your PC for it to work (makes sense) so I'm wondering what the trustworthy options are for this.

I use remote desktop for my iphone and my Surface to connect to my windows 7 server and my windows 8 server. Remember that you need professional on both to be able to connect and need password protected users.

Remote desktop won't work for this purpose. You need something like a TeamViewer or VNC-type application. RDP will lock out the console in favour of the remote session, meaning that your TV will just show a logon screen.

I have an app on my Nokia called 'Cool Remote' which emulates the keyboard and a touchpad for the media server connected to my TV over HDMI. I'm damn sure there are iOS options for such an app.

Why not install TightVNC on your Win 8 machine, than use PocketCloud (or another compatible VNC connector) on your iPad.
