Flames Heather Liscano Announces Retirement

http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=733304

The Calgary Flames announced today that longtime serving anthem singer Heather Liscano recently approached the team about leaving her role in order to focus more time on motherhood as well as songwriting and entrepreneurial opportunities.

“Today we fondly say goodbye to a very important member of our Flames family in Heather Liscano,” said Flames President & CEO Ken King.

I'm sad to see her go, she has been fantastic.

Best singer in the league IMO.

Heather was one of the best, but if she is out then we need to bring back Tony Reno!

Male anthem singers suck.

I really didn't appreciate Heather until I moved to the states and attended various NFL/MLB/NHL/NBA games where every anthem singer thinks they're on American Idol.

She was a pro because she didn't try to get "discovered" on every high note.

I remember Susan Smith coming to our Junior high for some talent show thing. She sang, we lost our little minds. In retrospect I'm fairly sure one of her kids was in my grade...

Susan Smith!

How does one become an anthem singer, anyway? Open tryouts? Reality show?

I would like to see a reality show, actually. It would be called "The Flame of Patriotism". Barb Higgins hosts. Judges would be Jan Arden, Lanny McDonald, Paul Brandt's former bass player, and a rotating cast of one-timers that sees Shania Twain pass the flaming microphone on to the winner in a tearful finale episode!

Oh man, that would be good TV.

This is really sad news for me, she and Lauren Hart are the only two singers I will actually tune in specifically to hear sing the national anthems

Heather Liscano was truly talented and had the ability to sing a song without butchering it with unnecessary over singing.

I feel sorry for the person that has to follow her, very doubtful he'she will be at par

How about that tool that sings for the Canucks? He can come in here and sing the other half of the anthem.
