Default Oh Fata... what a bad doctor!

http://sourcefed.com/doctor-pleads-g...-for-patients/

What would be the appropriate punishment for a doctor who does this?

$109 million dollars in fraud should get him about 20 years. He's clearly going to lose his license and he's going to be sued into poverty.

I'm more concerned that there isn't a mechanism to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment in place. I'm not a doctor, but my sister is and she has to go through panels or something like that on a major diagnosis and majorly expensive treatment.

Unfortunately, these sorts of things really hurt the trust of patients and the medical community.

There are already a lot of people that avoid doctors and hospitals because they are skeptical about their motives and the effectiveness of treatment.

When my dad was being treated for cancer, I always had to reassure him that he wasn't a guinea pig and that the doctors weren't trying to kill him. If he heard about this sort of thing back then, for sure he would have opted out of treatment.

Not nearly as bad as this, but in the town I grew up in, we had a dentist that used to tell people they needed dental work that they didn't. I have had a hard time trusting dentists ever since.

So an ounce of prevention is no longer worth a pound or cure?

OMFG. Wow.

I know this guy IRL. He is (was) an attending at the same hospital where I did my residency (in Southield, MI). A couple of his former fellows are still good friends of mine... Sending texts now.

Not sure how this monkey business could have happened. There are 2X1st year heme-onc fellows and 2X2nd year heme-onc fellows who did ALL the work. He literally shows up after they round just to sign charts and is gone again. I don't understand how this could have been executed without everyone knowing...

Not all doctors are bad doctors but all bad doctors are doctors.

He should go to prison for assault if he truly administered or ordered administered potentially harmful drugs to people he knew did not need them.

His own medicine. For six or eight months or so. That'd do him - debt paid.
