Default DriCore SmartWall?

Has anyone heard of this before?

http://www.homedepot.ca/product/smar...l-panel/408550

How does this compare to the traditional basement finish? Very curious as this could speed up putting up a wall faster. Seems a little expensive but with adding foam insulation, drywall it doesn't seem too bad if I can finish it in half the time.

i have never heard of this - and i don't think i have seen anythig like this used on a TV show.......a 20 x 20 room would be $2,400 versus the traditional drywall cost of about $220'ish? plus the cost of mudding and taping.

i wonder what it would be like to cut holes in that stuff for outlets and switches and i wonder how it jions together to be seemless - tongue and groove?

I could see this being handy for your outside walls of a basement if they are not framed/insulated but there is no reason to be using an insulating panel on interior walls.

I've used Dricore for a basement floor in the past and it is very easy to install and definitely makes a nice temperature difference.

I just don't see the value in this for walls though.

In addition did you look at the products they sell with this? Separate (more expensive panels) for outlets sections. Special compound and screws as well.

Leave it to Bryan used this in one episode for a basement.

Did look like it sped thing up quite a bit.

i guess my question about how you place switch boxes in it have been answered - make sense as presumably the panel offer some support. if the hole needed to be bigger i suppose you could use a zip saw.

Basement would likely be very comfortable if you went with this on walls and floor.

How is electrical inspection going to work with that...

Yah that's a good question about inspection. I haven't decided if the extra cost is worth it. But for exterior walls it could speed things up... But whether it's worth it is a different story. Can definitely see this catching on. Would make renos a breeze.

Apparently there's special compound you use that hides it pretty well. Not many reviews out there though.

Expensive and goes in a basement where it's likely to get water damaged and need to be replaced, where do you buy shares in this earner?

Doesn't need muddling and taping but there is a 'special' no doubt expensive paste to hide the cracks, that isn't cheap mud?

And of course unless your walls are square it will look like bad drywall.

Reminds me of Kerdi-board.

Yeah I've been trying to price out similar specs for a wall.

Seems like I need foam board which is roughly $40 + drywall, mudding and labour which could easily come to the $60 a panel. Not sure how it'll hold up on the long run. Going to get some quotes from contractors first. Just wanted to know if anyone here has used it before and what they thought.
