GAME 14 : Stampeders at SASKATCHEWAN
First game of the season between the Stampeders and the Riders. Calgary (11-2) is in first place won against the BC Lions 14-7 last week, while Saskatchewan Riders(9-4) dropped into the third place after losing the game to Edmonton 24-0.
GAME TIME : Friday, October 3 at 8pm MDT at Mosaic Stadium in Regina.
TELEVISED : TSN, ESPN2
OFFENSE :
The powerful Stampeders running game was the difference in last week's game. RB Jon Cornish racked up 156 yards on the ground and he is now in 2nd place in CFL Rushing Leads and I believed he is 21 yards behind Brandon Whitaker of Montreal, who hasn't missed a game this season. Last season against the Riders, Cornish carried the ball 44 times and rushed for 326 yards, with 5 TDs in 3 games. Cornish is a double winner for the CFL monthly awards. He was named the CFL Offensive Player and Canadian player for the Month of September and also won the Canadian Player of the Week in Week 14. The way the Riders defense played last week against the running game, we might see Cornish taking over the CFL lead and will have a good lead on Whitaker who is going to be off this week (Montreal have a bye week).
QB Drew Tate played a much better game last week compared to the game the previous week against Montreal. Not his best but at least he did not turn over the ball. WR Maurice Price caught 2 passes for 66 yards and could have more if Tate did not overthrew a few balls towards Price. WR Jeff Fuller is coming off the 6 game injured list and expected to dress and play for the game on Friday. Stamps is also expecting OL Dan Federkeil to be back in the game and RB/Returner Hugh Charles might get the nod to replace the injured RB/Ret Jock Sanders.
QB Bo Levin been practicing this week and there is a good chance he will start against the Riders on Friday. Hufnagel is not a 100% yet but he is leaning towards BLM to start. It'll all depend on how the practice goes today.
DEFENSE :
Last week was the best the defense played in the last 4 games. Led by MLB Juwan Simpson who practically shut down BC's running game and RB Andrew Harris game (before Harris goes down with the ankle injury). Our DLine who are missing 3 starters shut down Kevin Glenn. DLine with backups Quinn Smith and Junior Turner recorded a sack each. LB Deron Mayo was very impressive all night recording 8 tackles and 1 special team tackle. LB Keon Raymond, the always reliable OLB recorded 4 tackles and had 1 INT. DB Brandon Smith also picked up 1 INT.
The defensive unit was awesome all night shutting down the receivers. When they let them catch the ball, they punished them with the big hit. I think that was one of the reason why the always reliable receiver Shawn Gore and Emmanuel Arcenaux both had a few catchable pass dropped.
SPECIAL TEAM :
Jock Sanders was having a good game before he goes out of the game due to injury. Sanders recorded over 150+ yards in return yards(punt and kickoff) and that earned him the Special Team Player of Week 14. K Rene Paredes is having an off year this season was 3 for 4 on the field goal.
************************************************** ***
Who will start as QB for the Riders this week? Are the Stamps defense going after Tino Sunseri or Doege? It doesn't matter who will play, they still have to pressure the QB all night long. I just hope they don't Riders QB lightly.
GO STAMPS GO!!!

Cornish runs for 300 and the Stamps win by 25. Ok not quite, but unless the Saskatchewan LBs get it together Cornish is going to have a career day.

So Bergman's play forced Craighead to the right of Jones and displaces Wilson from the starting lineup. Although I think Federkeil health is a concern right now so I can see Wilson going back in his place this year or next year.
Fuller comes back and West is pushed out. Athough imo West was just starting to find his stride.
Butler, injured? Williams comes in his place.

Nope:
“@660News: Stamps Quincy Butler will not play for Calgary again this season. Immigration officials say not eligible. Charged with assault in spring.”

FINALLY a Friday night game again, thank jebus. Since NFL/NCAA ball started last month the Stamps have played at the exact same time as either my college or NFL team 4 weeks straight on Sat or Sun, freaking annoying. Friday Night Football, break out the Baconators!
Was kinda hoping to see Bo back in there, but Tate's probably the safe bet here for another week. Excited to see Fuller back too, that was a big loss when he went down. I would love to see the Riders get stomped at Mosaic, god I hate them so much.

What?? This is weird. I was wondering why Butler is coming out, I didn't think he got injured last week. So, those guys from Saskatchewan got charged with something last year and they are still playing. I think one of them is Taj Smith and the other is Dwight Anderson or something. Something fishy here.

Butler committed his crime in the states, vs. the Riders players was done in Regina.

Unlikely I'll be able to watch this one tonight. On the other hand, that might be a good thing. Go Green! No more injuries please (to either team)

Incorrect. Butler assaulted a cab driver outside of a Calgary Casino back in May.
Last year everything was done to help the Riders win the 101st Grey Cup at home in Regina.
Players allowed to play after assault charges, going over the salary cap etc.
Unfortunately the Stamps were depleted with injuries because I don't think they would've won the West Final if Calgary was healthy.

Correction: Quincy Butler assaulted a cab driver outside Cowboys Casino, a mistake that he regretted after a few months. So, for a stupid $100 deposit he is now not allowed to work in Canada. That was a dumb mistake on his part.
