Default Replacing ID from Lost Wallet

For the first time in over a decade, I find myself with no Identification. I took Transit for a short ride to downtown, and accidentally left my wallet on the bus as I was involved in a important cell phone conversation. A few hours later, I managed to get a Commissioner of Oaths legally stating who I am.

My question is where to get ID and how, considering I had to cancel my bank card and Visa. I've heard the Sheldon Chumir does an ID program, but I am unsure when I can obtain the ID so I can go to a bank and take out some money,

Has anyone been in this predicament, and if so, how did you go about reclaiming your lost identification?

Did you phone Transit to see if someone turned in your wallet?

First thing is contact Transit. Earlier this year, I left my wallet on the train, and transit called me the next day, saying that they found it. I got it back with everything in it.

Do you have a birth certificate?

With a birth certificate you should be able to get a temporary drivers licences and with a birth cert and a temp drivers you should be able to get a bank card. VISA will also just mail you a card in 5/7 business days but that doesn't help you now

Yes I did immediately.

Calgary Transit indicated that they would not know until the next business day, when anything left on the Bus is placed in lost and found, so Monday at 10:00 AM I should know for sure. What is encouraging, is that the operator told me that each day, Transit recovers 10-15 wallets, and about 20-25 cell phones on their buses and CTrains.

I had a wallet sized birth certificate from Manitoba, but unfortunately, that was in the wallet too. I'll have to find out what I can do about that. I heard the Sheldon Chumir Centre and CUPS can help in some way, but I am not exactly sure what you need to obtain identification.

I have:

Letter from the Government with my current address
Commissioner of Oaths letter
H2S, CPR/First Aid "C" cards
photos of myself on my Suncor Pass and YMCA cards.

There was only $20 in the wallet, so I pray that someone was kind enough to turn it in.

Call a registry near you to see if they will accept the oaths letter. As if you can get a temp drivers license even though it's not photo it usually goes along way.

Lost my wallet a few years ago. I had no problem getting a new license. I don't think I even needed any ID, just my name and had to confirm a few questions about my address and all that stuff. Keep in mind that was the second registry I went to, Shawnessy told me I needed a police report but I think it was just the teller being lazy at the end of the day. The bank is good for that stuff too. As long as you know your PIN and personal information it wasn't difficult. Kind of scary how easy it was actually.

Interesting, I never thought about how you would get a replacement driver's license without a passport.

Years ago I lost my wallet at the Sunnyside Safeway and when I called to ask about it they said nothing had been turned in. Fast forward to 6 months later when I was shopping there again and the cashier started acting funny when I gave her my Safeway card. She was like your name sounds so familiar, did you happen to lose a wallet here a while ago? Then I was handed my wallet with everything still inside. Of course I had already replaced all the cards by then /cool story.

In 6 months the store never tried to contact you? And if they tried and failed they didn't hand the wallet over to police which will contact you? Something is off there....

Went to Transit, and was informed they had not sorted through the items found on the buss. Called the call centre to see if anything came up, and was told they finished sorting the items during the weekend and nothing was returned.

This really sucks, as I managed to convince the next bus driver I came in contact with (5 minutes after I departed the bus I had left my wallet in) to call the driver on the bus phone, and managed to get ahold of them, and they had replied they would look for it. Unfortunately, that was the last trip by the driver, as they ended their shift once the route ended.

I was the only person on the bus when I departed, so who knows if someone got on the bus and took it, or there is some other explanation. Either way, I am just hoping to get some kind of photo ID since I need to go to my bank and hopefully obtain new banking cards.

Looks like it is gone for good. I guess this would be a good place to mention that I am a hard worker, responsible clean male (6'2/215), that is looking for any work I can get my hands on in the Bankview/Marda Loop/Upper Mount Royal area. I can do snow removal, lawn care, help with moves etc. for the best rates in Calgary. I have a good heart and I am in good physical shape.
