I have been waiting to get an invite to the Hearthstone beta. I don't have a lot of experience with TCG's so I thought it looked good.
In my search for a good TCG I came across Hex which looks very promising www.hextcg.com Looks to be little more in depth and I decided to try the slacker backer. Alpha is released in a couple of weeks so I hopes its good.
I played a little last week when I borrowed an account. It's fun that's forsure.
Got lucky on a Blizzard giveaway on Facebook.
It's hella fun. Just went 8-3 in my first arena!
Just regular play will probably get a bit boring, but Arena will always be fun. I assume they'll run constructed tournaments and such eventually. I'll probably spend a few dollars on it because I love pretty much anything that Blizzard makes and want this game to be successful. After that, I'll stick to spending coins from doing my daily quests and whatever I get from Arena.
PC Games was supposed to give away 350 of them this morning but they didn't change their site from the previous giveaway so people were using a cached version of the page to get the keys before the giveaway was even live.. possibly even with bots. Reports vary but sounds like either all the keys were gone before the giveaway was even started, or something else happened but the actual button never went live on the site.
I bet a lot of those 350 got sold for $200 or more too.

Any lucky dude with a Hearthstone key? If so, do you like the game?
The game is pretty awesome. I'm new to TCG's but recently tried a few. hearthstone will appeal to the masses with its easy learning curve and familiar characters. I suck at making decks it's my only downfall of TCG of course that's the main point. I love opening packs and put $90 into it (70 packs)
Overall it's going to be a huge time waster for me and I'm getting an iPad just for the 2 TCG's I will be playing. Hearthstone and Hex.

I put about $20 in for now... I'll wait til after release to see if I put more in.
I'm optimistic for tournament play which will probably eat up a few of my dollars
We should start a hearthstone thread.

I think the only thing that's discouraging me from the game is the rate at which you can earn gold... 1 gold per win and a 150 gold arena fee is too much, or up to 1600 gold to craft a specific card.. I get that it shouldn't be too easy, but that's too much.
If someone plays at say an average of 5 games a day (which is probably high), then one could only get into an arena game once a month, and then you still have to win to benefit from it.
There are other ways to get gold, but achievements are a one time thing I assume.

Based on what you're saying, it sounds like Hearthstone is free-to-play, but it's almost unplayable if don't dump money into it? That's really unfortunate.

This video says there's a daily quest that gives you 40 gold... so one arena every three days roughly, less if you win any gold from arena.
You can use gold to craft cards? I thought it was only dust you got from disenchanting cards?
In Beta anyway your first arena entry is free and quests (Play 3 online matches, do 100 damage to enemy heroes) is giving me 100G per. The rate at which you get gold for wins that aren't quest based seems low, I agree but they need to add some longevity to the game.

I don't think its unplayable without money. It may be impossible to hit high ranks fast without putting money into the game just like any F2P game.

Not totally, seems like there's lots of guys who are getting high ranks and stuff without putting much $$ into it, it's more a speed of progression thing. I just get the sense that it might be too slow for me.

Good point, though assuming you can complete the quest, which can be class specific.

Yeah but you can use gold to buy card packs can't you? Which can be disenchanted.

Seems some pretty high ranking guys with minimal $$ spent, which bodes well.
