Bertuzzi and Moore working on out of court settlement
It's only taken 10 years:
“@TSNBobMcKenzie: Legal reps for Todd Bertuzzi and Steve Moore are deep into discussions aimed at arriving at a negotiated (out of court) settlement.”
“@TSNBobMcKenzie: Note: While some sources suggest Bertuzzi-Moore settlement may be close, no legal agreement currently in place. Civil trial set for Sept 8.”
“@TSNBobMcKenzie: But multiple sources say a negotiated settlement to avert a trial is a possibility. Talks are ongoing.”

Why do trials like these take so much time?

Yes the lawyers need to justify their own existence by making everything as complicated and drawn out as possible.

The time Bertuzzi spent attempting to shift blame onto Crawford and the Canucks didn't help speed things along.

In cases like this there is also a medical component - i.e. you don't want to sue with damages saying "you ruined 2 years of my life" when you really may never be able to do many things for the rest of your entire life. Further, you can't sue claiming lifelong trauma until you have the medical evidence to support the "life long" nature of your claim.
Having said that, this sure has dragged on a long time...

This is taking a lot longer than I expected it to. I think they're just saying the same things over and over, it's like beating an unconscious hockey player at this point.
I think the sooner this gets settled, the better it is for everyone.

Looks like it's done:
“@michaelgrange: No detail as of yet, but again: Moore-Bertuzzi litigation is over after 10 years. Moore was seeking $68-million in damages.”

Holy crap. Bertuzzi can afford to pay $68 million in damages? I really really doubt that...

According to Capgeek, Bertuzzi has made $47 million in before tax earnings from his NHL career.

Moore was looking for 68 million, I would think he agreed to significantly less. I would bet its in the 10 to 20 million dollar range.
I'm willing to be that a lot of anger on Moore's part at the start of this has faded. Frankly the kid is pretty much wrecked for life, but dealing with this has to be exhausting.
I'm sure on Bertuzzi's side they took a sobering look at how damaging this case could be and decided not to take a chance on getting this in front of a judge.
The NHL will be glad if this goes away and the Canucks will probably have to pay into this.

Moore won't get anything near that. It was a ridiculous demand.

I would bet it's nowhere near that. We will probably never find out because it's all confidential, but I would guess it's about 10% of that. We will also not know what the Canucks contributed to the settlement.

I'm guessing around 3-5 mill if that from Bert and probably around that from the nucks. I guess we'll never know but I can't see him getting close to 10 mil total.

Any idea what Moore was earning at time of injury?
25 at time of event. Surely, lost earning potential has to come into play here? And I get he wasn't a superstar. Regardless, if so I would guess >$10M. 10-20?

Hard to prove he would make that much as an NHL player, as its just as likely he could get injured or not be good enough to play anymore.
Which is why he would settle for much less than 10 million. I'd guess in the 1 - 5 million range.
