2014 Calgary Roughnecks and NLL Thread
Roughnecks home opener is tomorrow night at 7 PM against the Colorado Mammoth.
The Roughnecks lost their season opener last week to 16-11 to the Toronto Rock.
I wont be at tomorrows game, but hope to go to some this year, Roughnecks games are always fun.
Edit - I attended the game and it was great.

We'll finally get to see some goals scored in the Saddledome.

Definitely worth checking out. Always a good time when the Roughnecks play. I think they still do the $20 vouchers at Safeway where you get into the lower bowl for 20 bucks. You definitely get value for your money there.

Going to my first Roughnecks game tonight. Looking forward to it. I enjoyed watching some NLL on tv and looks like it is going to be a fun night.

Good game tonight, boys looked a bit rusty in the first but picked it up from there. That new Leung kid has some wheels. Great games from Shattler, Dobbie, and Snider.
Our family loves lacrosse, the Roughnecks are a great entertainment value. Plus our boys play so I've become a bit of a LAX dad.

Awesome game tonight. Pretty disappointed all the games are at 7 again this year. It used to be there was 2 or 3 matinées. It is way easier to take my 3 year old to the afternoon games. He went to the playoff game last year in the playoffs and ####ing loved it.

Was there last night as well. Great game. Great atmosphere.
Anyone notice the new turf? Nice. Aside from the fact that the logo was upside down from the TV cameras...opposite that of the Flames' centre ice logo. I have to wonder if that was a mistake. I don't think that they can simply flip it as the bench area has that red painted area...

Went to the game as well! Was a great game and atmosphere. Attendance was over 11000. Loved the new turf as well. I don't think the logo was upside down, it faced the usual cameras. I was a little surprised at the ticket prices. We bought walk up tickets (5 of us) and the cheapest option was $41. I think that might be a little steep for "cheapest" in the house. I remember tickets used to be under $25.

Safeway used to sell vouchers to the home games for about $20/tickets. Not sure if they are doing so again for this season...you may want to give customer service a quick ring.

This will be my 8th year of being a season ticket holder.
As mentioned the boys overcame a slow start and stalled with the score at 11-7 to come away with the win. Rookie Leung did look strong. The other rookies will need some time to develop.
A little concerned that last years MVP Shawn Evans wasn't involved more in the offense. Same with Curtis Dickson. Those two need to be allowed to contribute or the season may not go as planned.

I thought Evans looked ok, played a good fundamental game and was in the mix. Dickson looked gassed coming back to the bench on a few shifts and just seemed out of sorts on a few plays. I'll chalk it up to early season.
Caught Roughnecks Radio on 960 yesterday and thought McBride did a great job. Seems very comfortable behind the mic. Hope it builds up some interest in the game and the team.

Nasty loss to Edmonton last night. Now 1-2 on the season. Looks like the Rush capitalized better on their shots on goal as they were pretty close.
Vancouver in town tonight. Really need the higher profile forwards to step up and Poulin to play a bit better. And lay off the bad penalties. 4 PPG against last night.

Never been a Poulin fan. They need a better tender. He is the problem.

I think team defense is the problem, even when Poulin plays well, they give up too many.

Another player struggling is Snider in the FO, he's a career 74% and this year he's below 60% and tonight too he's less then 60% against a rookie.
I think hiring Malawsky as the coach was a mistake as well.
Calgary vs Van in Lacrosse too! 10-9 Necks in the 3rd Q.
Shots 44-31 Roughnecks so Poulin not great again.

Roughnecks win 15-12. Evans (9 points), Doobie (5 goals), Veltman (5 points), Shattler (5 points) all with big games.
Snider wins 55% of his faceoffs.

I have to agree. I'm not sure why Snider has changed so drastically this year. His FO wins are way down and he keeps doing those blind Hail Mary passes that rarely go to a teammate.
If Malawsky used the offensive talent he has to their potential, I don't see how they couldn't win every game. Everyone just seems to do whatever they want. No plays.

Not defence so much as transition. This was a problem last year, and still seems an issue this - we always seem so slow transitioning to defence, and it creates a lot of odd-man rushes.
