Default Strange Computer Problem - Hardware?

I have a weird issue that I just discovered last week. I was trying to use resource monitor to figure out which app had a file open. Open Resource Monitor, switch to CPU tab, and start typing into the search box of the associated handles area and I got a blue screen. First blue screen I'd ever seen on Windows 8!

APC_INDEX_MISMATCH

Did it a few times after reboots and got the same, oh well figured it out another way just filed that away as weird.

Today I wanted to use Cpu-Z, and it hung on startup. I rebooted and tried HWMonitor, and that hung a bunch of my apps.

Before I start ripping out hardware to try and debug it, sound familiar to anyone? Kind of feels like a hardware problem rather than a software one, but a hardware problem that only manifests when trying to get some info about the hardware?? Very weird.

Driver issue perhaps? Check for any driver updates.

APC issues relate to DLL and Kernel functions. I see a reformat in your future.

The fresh install of Windows 8.1 was just like 5 months ago!

I and I know I used to use Cpu-Z and HWMonitor before.

Yeah I saw that driver thing too, I guess I'll go through all my drivers and update as necessary. At least I can reliably reproduce the problem.
