Au Revoir

Hello CPHL,

It is with a heavy heart that I am retiring as GM of the hallowed Montreal Canadiens.

I had a blast playing fantasy hockey with you guys, and believe it or not, I did have a method in my madness in this offseason. But I guess I missed a crucial deadline with everything that has happened to me recently and I realize I need to step down. It wasn't my plan, but I do support the leagues decision. It's been a rough year, and it doesn't appear to be getting any easier anytime soon.

For those who do not know what happened to me, my sister of 34 years died tragically this July. We were a year apart and raising each other from a single parent home, we were as close as close could be. Obviously this turned my world upside down.

Not only that, but as some of you know I struggle with health issues and was hospitalized for a significant portion of time at the beginning of this season. While I did notify the league I missed some big deadlines there too.

Put the two together and it's been one of the toughest years of my life. And it isn't fair to you guys either. Stepping down actually took a little stress off me immediately, so I think it's best for all parties concerned.

I want to thank the league as a whole. A special shout out to the commishes who run it, and the volunteers who do the weekly updates and contests. Most importantly I made a few new friends here who I don't talk to much or run into much in the forums. Most notably 'Sim' silentsim, Joe Da Chief, and devo22 (I don't think I ever got your real name!) whom I was trying to build a Habs-Buds rivalry with.

I may look at coming back down the road, but on the other hand, when Cheese first asked me to jump in, he mentioned the lockout and how it might be the only way I get my hockey fix that year. I did that. I did have big aspirations and ideas for my team, but at the end of the day, it is all make believe and my priorities are changing right now. At the very least I will probably pop my head in and see how things are going and cheer for my faves, maybe even the new GM for the Habs. That is, if that won't weird you guys out.

I'll stay in touch, don't be shy about hunting me down in the forums or sending me a PM once in a while.
