Viral video of 18 year old attacking autistic teenager
Quote:
An Okeechobee teen is accused of beating up a 16-year-old boy with autism, and the attack was recorded and posted online, according to an incident report from the Okeechobee City Police Department.
|
Quote:
Police then took Wheeler to the Okeechobee County Jail and charged him with child abuse without great bodily harm.
|
WARNING: The video in this link is graphic, one person is punching another person who is in the fetal position.
According to Wheeler the autistic kid was refusing to leave and attacked other people at the party. According to the kid he was told to fight someone, refused to go outside, and that's when the beating started.

What a tough guy picking on a 16 year old kid with Autism.
I hope I one day interrupt a situation like this. I have a friend who has a brother with Autism and he is freakishly strong. I don't know if this is normal for kids with autism but man it would have been nice to see that kid get up and beat the living day lights of that coward.

The president of our high school class used to do that to a severely handicapped kid in our high school, he'd corner him and kick basketballs at his face and punch him. Still pisses me off that I was too small to stop it and no one helped him at the time, people can really suck some times
ughh that video sucks, what a piece of ####

Disgusting pieces of crap........The aggressive kid has his hat in the classic d-bag position.....the hero that filmed the whole thing also deserves to have to serve some time in a locked room with the victims father.......

Set aside that the individual beaten has autism, nobody deserves to be beaten like that. Even if the boy did do something prior to prevoke the incident, there is no excuse for what we say in that video.

I was going to bold a couple of lines here, but I agree 100% with this entire post.
I also really wish I hadn't watched that video.

The only reason the attacker is in jail is because of this video.
I don't know what the filmer's motivations were and I think it's best not to assume. I couldn't hear anything in the video in the link, so maybe there is another version with the filmer is egging the attacker on and high fiving him, in which case I'm obviously a bum.
Maybe the filmer was small and helpless like AcGold* above. If he never filmed that video than this kid would just be another kid on the "autistic scale" getting bullied and the internet would be without its tough guy mob outrage revenge fantasy of the week.
We should be thanking the filmer and the news should be paying him for all the sweet sweet cheddar they are making off his video. Until next week's facebook outrage bumps this off the front page, of course.
*AcGold, the guy who is just as bad as his class president according to your post.

I didn't watch the video but you can't expect everyone to step in who witnesses an event. The days are long gone where someone would police other peoples' children. My dad did some things while I was growing up that probably would get him arrested today.
Is the Police Chief really encouraging an innocent bystander to engage an attacker or group of attackers? I'm 5'7", not trained in any martial arts or self-defence, not carrying a gun, and I'm supposed to break up an incident with one or more Delta Bravos?
I'm not sure what is a reasonable expectation from an average citizen encountering a violent situation. It certainly can't be for he or she to take them on physically.

Initially I was mad at the person that videod it; however, in retrospect they do play an important role in capturing the evidence. The right thing for the video person would be to take the video directly to the police, which, May or may not have happened.
If it was a party it would have been nice if a group of folks stepped up and helped out

Yeah, that was odd to hear, I know in Calgary 100% of the time I've heard Calgary police comment on citizens getting involved in any incidents/crimes it's been "Don't do it, call the police and we'll handle it. We don't want citizens putting themselves in danger", etc

Well I guess we agree to disagree. The part of the film I saw it didn't even seem like the filmer was saying anything. He could have said "stop I am filming you".
I still believe the filmer should have stepped in, as should one of the other bystanders.

I like the idea of the Stocks for this kind of crime.
Have him put in Stocks or be forced to wear a sign downtown that simply says "I get off on beating up handicapped people"
