Do you take 4th ave to get out of the core? Maybe don't today.
They are working on the future lane reversal for 5th ave, and 4th ave by 9th street is already backed up. Everybody is being re-routed to 10th street and then to 6th ave.
Get onto 6th ave earlier, or get ready to turn south on 9th street. Just watch for C-trains.

Yikes... good PSA. Would've been baffled and frustrated.

They should really look at making dual turn lanes from 7th street onto the 5th Ave lane reversal. That single turn lane will back up easily and won't do much to clear congestion from 4th Ave.
I would suggest then that the street parking north of 4th Avenue SW on 7th Street SW be eliminated from 3:30 pmto 6:30 pm. That would add 50% more southbound lanes on 7th Avenue SW and therefore better access to 5th Avenue S.
I called 311 about this a year ago. I received a phone call saying that my suggestion was unnecessary.
I drive east out of DT, so excuse my ignorance, but is a lane reversal really needed? People already have both 4th and 6th to get out of DT to the west, so do they really need to use up 5th as well? Just wondering if the situation is that bad?

Yeah, it's pretty bad. I wouldn't say it's horrible though. My guess is that 5th Ave is completely dead during the afternoon rush and the city is trying to make the most efficient use of existing infrastructure as possible. I'm not sold on the idea, personally, but I suppose that's why they are doing the pilot.

Both 4th and 6th cross the train tracks. Depending on the timing of the lights/trains, it can get pretty backed up.

Wow, this is news to me. I've been griping about the 6th Ave / 4th Ave Ctrain crossings for a while. (Which remain horrifically timed, and are the bottleneck getting out of downtown westbound). Be interesting to see what impact this has, as access to the reversed lanes appears pretty minimal (SB 7th, 9th Streets).
Knowing the city, they will use the worst timings possible for the connection lights @ 4th Ave, and all the new capacity will be lost by making 4th Ave worse.
I do not look forward to the addition of 4 car trains on the NW Ctrain line, will just make the problem even worse.
Oh, so it is the c-train crossing that slows everything down going out westbound. I knew the train crossed there, but didn't realize it was such an issue.

At first I thought the same thing, they were reversing 5th ave all the way. That would make getting to Memorial a nightmare, as its not great already.

It's going to be a disaster. The trains just fit between the avenues right now with 3 cars. With 4 they will not. They only way they can avoid having a train block the street is by timing all the lights so they go through that whole section.......meaning that all westbound traffic stops while a train goes through.
Gonna be fun.

Yeah, and in rush hour, trains are supposed to be running every couple of minutes.
Its already a clusterfata now, for both the trains and cars. It's too bad we can't just put the trains under/over ground in downtown.
