Should a full Judicial Inquiry be convened to investigate the Redford scandal?
I think there should. Its the only way we'll get to know the whole truth. Wrong doers and those who stood by and let it happen, while knowing full well what was going on, need to be held accountable.

Quote:
Auditor general Merwan Saher’s report of Aug. 7 was extraordinary in its findings, but was clear that its scope was limited only to the premier’s office travel expenses. However, on page two of his report, the AG pointed out that Alison Redford and her office were aided by the negligence of other areas of the government.
|
Quote:
Moreover, Premier Dave Hancock and Finance Minister Doug Horner both stood in the legislature when questioned about specific allegations that government aircraft were used for partisan and personal purposes, and denied them categorically.
Those denials were shredded by the auditor general on pages 26 and 27 of his report. Office staff told the AG that dates of Progressive Conservative party fundraising dinners are known well in advance, and that official government business would be scheduled around them in order to allow the premier to fly there on the taxpayers’ dime. In several cases, there wasn’t even the pretence of government businesses.

Not saying it shouldn't, but what would a judicial inquiry produce that is different from the AG report?

Goody lets spend more money on an investigation than the actual wrongdoings.

It will allow them to widen the investigation and have stronger interview abilities.
It will probably also have a wider mandate.

Because...

The AG was not mandated to investigate the extent of involvement of those “other areas of government” awestruck by the aura of power that was the premier’s office.

You could probably say that same thing about every criminal investigation and prosecution.

It may be worth it just to see if there is anyone else who is fond/okay with taking advantage of tax payers money. Could potentially stop or make politicians toe the line on needlessly spending tax payers money if they see repercussions...
In a perfect world.

I think it should. I would find that to be a good use of my tax dollars to see some accountability.
How it would be different is that the judicial inquiry can also set its parameters. It can give immunity to staff or whistleblowers should it choose to do so, and I suspect that immunity will be necessary for many whistleblowers to come forward.

If they ever did a full audit of the waste and entitlement in the PC government we would probably be awestruck. Best way to clean up the mess is to stop voting them in, especially with majority governments.

I can't wait til the current PCs are so tarred and feathered that Albertans cry "ENOUGH!" and vote in a group of former PCs.
That'll show em!

I think at this point you don't have a choice. I mean its impossible to believe that this was a conspiracy carried out that nobody knew about.
Basically they have to do this to clean out the rot and to restore some faith.

Horner (especially) and Hancock certainly don't want a full inquiry. Or the PC party as a whole since it means their dirty laundry continues to get aired as an election marches inexorably closer.

I don't think scandal is the appropriate term you're looking for here.

I would like to look into Redford awarding the legal work for the tobacco case to her hubby's firm. There're some ethic commissioner reviews requested by her, I would like to know if she asked or commanded the commissioner to rule it her way.

Its Malibu Stacey and she has a new Hat!
Can a judicial inquiry kay criminal charges?
Do they have the power to force testimony with the threat of prisonif ou dont testfy?
If a judicial inquiry has those two powers tan one might be worthwhile, without it it would be a waste of time.
