Default Strangest Soccer Game Ever?

On January 27, 1994,the Barbados national football team and Grenada national football team played against each other as part of the qualification round for the 1994 Caribbean Cup. Due to an unusual scoring rule, as well as the two teams' respective positions in the tournament, it was alternately in Barbados's, then Grenada's, best interest to score an own goal.

also the 1998 Tiger Cup (SE Asian Championship)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998_Tiger_Cup

Vietnam were the hosts and if they made the semifinals they would play in Hanoi no matter what. Expected to win the group the ended up 2nd.

So the first place team in the other group would not only have to play Vietnam IN Vietnam but have to travel 2000km from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi.

So nobody wanted to win. Indonesia scored an own goal in injury time.

Of course the team neither team want to play, Singapore, went on the lift the trophy.

From a hockey perspective, the icing rule came about in amusing fashion. Icing was a common defensive tactic in the days before forward passing out of your own zone. When the New York Americans iced the puck a ridiculous number of times to beat Boston, Charles Adams retaliated by ordering his team to ice the puck constantly the next time the two teams met. The Bruins iced the puck nearly 100 times in a 0-0 draw. The icing rule was introduced the following season.
