Bennett is expected to play.

No idea if Klimchuk gets another look today and/or tomorrow.

Rafikov may play again.

Bennett has been moved to LW. 1st line LW by the looks of it. Should get lots of ice time.

Why is Gauthier even there? He was awful in last years tourney and the presence of guys like him on the team over more skilled players are the reason Canada has struggled at this tourney is the last number of years.

Hockey Canada has always had a preference of returning players over new players. I am drawing a blank as to the last time a returning player has never made the team.

Given that the following returned players are being tried at center in the summer camp, Bennett always had an uphill battle to make the team as a center:

McDavid
Reinhart
Horvat
Lazar
Petan
Gauthier

Reinhart is the least likely to be available for the WJC. And I would say there are good chances that the rest are made available, leaving injuries as to whether center positions are open.

Gauthier is just terrible. If anyone shouldn't be returning, it's him.

Couldn't agree more. Was it ever frustrating watching the play die on his stick every time Canada entered the zone

I felt having Lazar, Horvat and Gauthier was a huge mistake. All the creativity was basically left to Drouin and Mantha, while the rest of the team seemed to be focused on defense and positional play.

In that tournament, it should be attack, attack, attack. Yes, you need a checking line, but not 3 checking lines.

Edit: agree though, that Gauthier was the worst of the bunch

I can't see Lazar there. I think he makes the Sens, good chance Horvat makes the Canucks as well.

I can't think of any (healthy) examples either.

But considering the lack of success, along with new people in charge, it will be very interesting to see if they are all back.

I wish he was tried on RW, if we need to move him to wing in the future it will be that side.

Nah he's a Center for us. I wish RW because I'd prefer if he didn't knock Klimchuk down the depth chart or off the team by moving to LW.

I think the only time I know that has happened was Leland Irving, but he didn't even play a game when he made the team - so that doesn't really count.

Supposedly Lazar and Horvat have decent chances of making their NHL teams as well.

Even if that were the case, Bennett still might be looking at playing behind McDavid, Petan, and Gauthier.

If Gauthier gets more ice time than Bennett...

I really don't know if we even need a checking line.

Why not roll 4 forward scoring lines? No other team in the tournament can match that kind of depth.

Don't you want a scoring line to be playing out there against the opposition's grinders? Why do we need a checking lines just because other teams lack the scoring depth that Canada has?

I don't think you want to get caught in a run and gun type of game. In my opinion that's a good way to take a risk instead of dominating a game. Some defensive/grinder forwards are necessary to shut down the oppositions top guys. Most of those guys still have some offensive/big game ability too.
