I am moving to Edmonton
So, it looks like I will be moving south to Edmonton from the sunny city of Grande Prairie.
I realize that this is a Calgary board so there will be a lot of jokes about being stabbed, but I was hoping to get a few legit responses thrown in from the folks who live in Edmonton.
The first step is finding a place to live. Online I have been looking at infills in Bonnie Doon and around Westmount/Glenora as well as considering the satellite communities like St Albert.
I will be working at 142 Ave and 118th Street but my wife could be working almost anywhere so central seems better.
Thanks for the advice.

My most sincere condolences to you sir.
You had a good run, and now you are no good.
Be sure to leave everything you do well and all of your good decision making abilities at the city limits on your way out and may God have mercy on your soul.

How many pairs of sweatpants do you have? Whatever that number is.....triple it. Wouldn't want to be the odd duck wearing something "fancy" like jeans.

Can't really go wrong with the Westmount or Glenora area. Sherbrooke is not bad as well. St. Albert is pretty nice, but a tad pricey.

Dont forget to pick up your truck nuts. You dont want to seem all 'high and mighty.'

At least living in Edmonton is still better than living in Saskatchewan or Winnipeg. Also look for a cheap Oilers jersey you can eventually throw on the ice.

Triple still leaves me without a pair. I think I can work with that.

It is a pretty good promotion and the position does have season tickets so I should be able to catch the Flames whenever they are in town which is more often than I get to see them now living in Grande Prairie.

You wouldn't have to living in those areas I mentioned. Sherbrooke, Westmount and Gelnora would be close to that address you gave.
Traffic is bad at times in Edmonton, but no where near as bad as Calgary so that's a plus for sure. Not sure how bad the traffic is where you are coming from.
Oh and congrats on the promotion!

Edmonton has it's great points. Summers are nice and warm, the River Valley is nice, and there is some great walking around the U of A / Garneau / Whyte Ave / Westmount / Oliver / Glenora / Queen Alexandra and through the River Valley to connect them all.
Edmonton actually has decent farmers markets, and good golf can be found throughout the city.
Why am I telling you this? Because I am likely moving up there next year, and I'm trying to convince myself of the same thing

Thanks, Westmount etc looks quite nice but there are only a few homes there in our price range. We will look at all of them, but my wife can be picky with that kind of thing so I want a backup area.
We like the idea of being close to Whyte Ave so we thought Bonnie Doon might be a good spot to look. I definitely like the river valley and will try to stay close to it. Unfortunately, my budget is less than the 1.5 million that buys a beautiful house overlooking the river.
