Default Flames not renewing contracts of Troy G. Ward & Robbie Ftorek

Per the Flames twitter... Surprising news. Ward is a great coach.

Very surprised by this. Must be a Treliving directive as I believe Burke affirmed the heat coaching staff no?

Huh. Did Treliving think a change was needed? I thought Burke was very complimentary of the job Ward did in Abbotsford.

It could have something to do with the move to Glen Falls.

The Calgary Flames have announced that the contracts of Troy G. Ward, head coach of the Abbotsford Heat, and Robbie Ftorek, assistant coach in Abbotsford, will not be renewed.

honestly, I'm surprised. Nearly all of the callups looked ready for the big show and personally I thought Ward did a great job.

This surprises me. Ward seemed to have Burke's support and it sounded like he was interested in staying. I wonder if some of the vacant openings in the NHL have him on their short list.

Or the new management structure has somebody else in mind.

Well whatever the case may be, good luck to both of them, they did a great job in abby.

Actually, if Ward ends up on the Canucks, burn in Hell Ward. Can't send off well wishes to a Canuck.

EDIT: RFP? Someone clue me in please.

what I put in another thread:

That is very surprising!

I imagine RFP is dancing in the streets right now.

RFP occasionally posts about the Heat - and his/her bitterness towards Ward, and anyone who said anything positive about Ward or the Heat, was palpable to say the least

Surprising for sure. I wonder if it is to give him an opportunity elsewhere, that he wasn't going to get here.

I liked Ward, but I think management would only do this if they think it will improve the organization. Hopefully they can find someone even better to coach the baby flames.

Not too surprised. We heard rumblings on this when Conroy went down there to babysit starting this season.

Always questions about the system matching what the big club was playing, vets playing over rookies and overall graduation of prospects.

I felt sometimes Ward was coaching too much with an NHL job in mind as opposed to solely the development of our players. You can't blame him for that at all, but I could understand why they'd make a change.

RFP is banned now - Most people were guessing he was a former player who had a vendetta against Ward. He posted in the Back Burner all the time.

I thought they were doing a great job on the farm team preparing these kids to be pros and coaching a responsible 200ft game/system.

Unnecessary move, IMO. I don't really understand it, seems almost like a knee jerk move by new management for the sake of making their presence known. Unless there's someone they have in mind to slot in right away that is.

Rule numbers

1) Most hockey people lie and Burke is a master of it.

2) Ward was a Feaster hire.

3) Treliving needs a stamp
