I think Steinberg's right in one of his other tweets that Hanowski probably has earned at least another year in the AHL to see what he can be. Nothing wrong with this deal.

Excellent news! Big fan of Hanowski's, although I was confused how he got the call-up at the end of the year over Reinhart. He was not NHL ready for that call.
Fully agree that another year in the AHL is what he needs. He was not the most NHL ready forward in Abbotsford last year, although he made some great strides during the year. Hopefully he impresses in the AHL this year, gets another look in the NHL late in the season (post trade deadline) and earns himself a 3rd or 4th line spot on the Flames for 2015-16.

Yep, I like this re-signing. He's shown some flashes of being a good NHL'er. Let's see how he's improved. Good team guy too by all accounts.

With him possibly being another David Moss type and on a similar developmental path, it won't hurt to see if he can progress. At worst, he'll be a decent guy to have in Addy to assist other guys offensively.

For some reason I thought he was a RW, and I was thinking that he had a pretty clear path to the NHL, too bad for him he is a LW, I am hoping for the best for him, but there a lot of guys slotted ahead of him

I think he is both LW and RW, but primarily LW.

He played RW in college and I guess now plays wherever needed.

I won't believe it until it's confirmed by SureLoss.

If he can just somehow get that piano detached from his ***, he has the potential to be a legit depth NHLer.
He lost some weight, and picked up an extra half a step, but he still has some significant strides to make (pun intended) in terms of quickness and mobility if he want to stick in the bigs.

Is he still RFA at the end of this?
Seems like the flames have a big load of potential 3-4 liners who are all roughly the same age. Thinking a couple will be looking to sign elsewhere when they can.

Yes, as at the end of this contract he will be both under 27 and less then 7 years in the NHL.

Lol.
Hanowski scored 2 more points while playing 14 more games than Baertschi at the AHL level. Because Baertschi was playing in the NHL, where he scored 11 points (for a 35 point pace), compared to Hanowski's 2 points in the NHL (for a 15 point pace).
So Baertschi scored more total points in the season. And more of them at a higher level than Hanowski. And had a higher points-per-game than Hanowski in both leagues.

2-way deal is awesome. This means he doesn't have to clear waivers, right?
No, a 2-way deal affects salary in NHL vs. AHL, but has nothing to do with waivers.
Aaaand, scene.

Not important to the Flames.
