I think the bigger news for the Blues is Sobotka signing in the KHL. He filled a big role for them.

Statsny is a different type player.

This is a good signing, I really like Ott and what he brings to a team. He seems like a good guy to have on the team and a guy everyone hates to play against. I really think the Blues look good this year, I wouldn't be surprised to see them replace Sobotka with a reclamation project.

Really liked Sobotka's game. I wonder if there was an opportunity to pick him up, as he is an RFA and St. Louis is up there cap-wise.

Sobotka was one, if not the best faceoff men in STL as well as a solid penalty killer. wish we could have got him

It just proves that "Sureloss" is human and not a machine. Unless that's what it/they wants us to think??

SureLoss is the guy that operates the league's fax machine in New York.

Bit much for a guy that won't play outside the 4th line.

Jesus, what is the Blues cap number at? Every summer they seem to have money to throw around.

Disagree, he's a very good agitating 3rd liner.

I agree, Ott is going to be a good addition and will be a 3rd line/pk guy who could always move up if things happen to other players. The guy is like an older version of Marchand, like them or not those guys have a place in the league. He must have done something good for the Blues to want him back.

I don't know what he was asking for but surprised they let Sobotka go as he seemed like a young, cheap option that fit perfectly on the 3rd line and was great on FO's. Would have loved to see him on the Flames even if it was just as a winger on a checking line with Backlund where he took the draws and Backlund moved to center after the FO.

I think Ott is a good fit as the 3rd/4th line center and key PKer. Hitchcock was on PTS the other day and talked about how they need more minutes out of their bottom 6, particularly in specific roles. Which seemed to mean he didn't wnat guys like Backes having to play PK and PP so if Ott replaces Backes in that role on the PK then good move that fits with what they want to do.

Bolted to the KHL for an extra million/year? Not a huge incentive when you're downgrading leagues, especially for a non-Russian.

Take home pay is a lot higher than that.

After taxes in the US on a $3M contract he'd probably be seeing about $1.8M and then he has to pay his agent's fees, so maybe $1.5M

In Russia he'd be getting damned near every dime of that $4M.

Fair enough. It wouldn't be enough to make me leave the NHL (outside of a few teams), much less from a legitimate contender.

Oh I agree, it makes you wonder if there were other reasons.

Sobotka has missed time with at least a couple (maybe more?) concussions.
More in the pocket plus less chance of same is probabaly a good career choice for him at this time
