Flames sign G Brad Thiessen (2 way, 1yr) and D/RW Sena Acolatse(2 way, 1yr)
Andy Neilsen @NLGoaltending 18h
@TheGoalieGuild missing Brad Thiessen , signed two way with Calgary for 1yr
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=11914
Ortio's AHL backup I imagine
Also may have signed D/RW Sena Acolatse who was not issued a QO from the Sharks
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=33574
both likely AHL bound once the season starts

28 years old, 2.26GAA and .930 save % in 18 games last year with Norfolk where he went 8-6-2.
Will be an OK backup I imagine for Ortio.

A couple of young guys for the farm. Replacements for Billins and Roy.

Sounds about right. Not going to need to sign too many of these types, as there are already almost a full rosters worth of legitimate prospects ready to fill up the AHL squad next season.
An experienced goalie who won't be a detriment when called upon, and who also doesn't have delusions of grandeur is the biggest thing we needed.
A hybrid right shooting right winger/d-man is actually also a perfect fit IMO. Acolatse is listed as 6'0 210lbs on the AHL site, so while not huge he certainly sounds solid.

There were a couple of college grad goalies that played a few games for the Heat last season that didn't do too bad. Doug Carr and Aaron Dell were a lot better than Roy or MacDonald. I was thinking one of them might get a chance.

Acolaste's Scouting report:
http://forecaster.thehockeynews.com/...layer.php?7245
Quote:
Scouting Report
Assets: Likes to play a physical game from behind the blueline. Is a capable hitter and also a fairly reliable defender. Can also put up points at lower levels.
Flaws: Must prove he can play a strong physical game at the highest level, since he will never be a big offensive threat in the National Hockey League.
Career Potential: Physical defenseman with some upside.

Due to fantasy league reasons I've actually followed Acolaste since San Jose signed him. He was thought of as a guy with good potential to put up some points while providing some sandpaper. He broke his jaw last year which kind of put him back but not something he couldn't come back from.
Worth a flyer anyway.

I remember watching Acolaste during his time with the Blades. He was one of their best defensemen. Meaningless pickup but overall it doesn't hurt to have a few extra guys in the system.
