Both Chicago and Philly currently above the cap
Chi town above by 2.2 and Philly by 1.2
Any room here for the Flames to take advantage of this?? Nick Leddy would be intriguing even though he is a lh shot.

Philly will be fine once Pronger goes onto LTIR.
Chicago could get by, by dumping Versteeg, but it will be tight for them.
Really the team you want to take advantage of is the Bruins.

Philly's cap hit counts Pronger, he will be put back on LTIR.
Edit: Dammit, by seconds.

Agree with this, they only have 18 players signed, have 1.64M in cap space and most of their players have NTC's. They need to pull a rabbit out of the hat or pay someone to take some cap off their hands. We could help with that but the Isles are desperate for cap hit so we have competition. Question is will any of their big cap hits waive to go to a bottom feeder?

could see Benning making a push for Loui Eriksson
always played well internationally with the Sedins, they can afford the hit and with Boston cap issues dont think it would cost much

I think Van would have to pay a premium with picks/prospects to make a deal with Boston, especially for the winger they just got in a highly scrutinized Seguin deal that is just a year old.

According to Dion, it was a foregone conclusion they offered a million to Iginla despite these dire cap circumstances.

The Bruins still have to sign Krug, Bartkowski and Reilly Smith. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see someone throw an offer sheet at one these guys in the coming days.

Wow they are in trouble. Did not realize they had that many key RFA's.

Why is Chara's cap hit 4 million for his final season?

Savard's 4 million cap can be used on the others, but still they are tight to the cap.

WHAT'S THE ILYA KOVALCHUK RULE?
Any long-term contract — five years or more — that extends beyond the age of 40 (as of June 30 prior to the season in question) will have its traditional cap hit adjusted.
ADJUSTMENT A
For years of the contract up to and including the age of 40, the cap hit is calculated by dividing the total salary for those years by the number of years up to and including the 40-year-old season. For years of the contract ages 41 and beyond, the cap hit in each year is equal to the actual salary paid for that season.
Example: Zdeno Chara signed a seven-year, $45.5-million deal starting in 2011 (age 34) and running through 2018 (age 41). Because he earns a $4 million salary at age 41, his 2017-18 cap hit is $4 million. For all other seasons, his cap hit is $6,916,667, with his $41.5 million in remaining salary divided over six years.

On top of the RFA's that they need to sign, I think the Bruins are still looking for a backup goalie as well. Chad Johnson is gone to the Island, unless they have someone in their system.

Eriiksson is slotted in as their top line RW. Can't see them moving him.

Forgot about Savard, that helps a bit but they are still in a tight spot.

The Bruins signed Svedberg to a one way contract a week or two ago. Most likely will backup Rask.
The Bruins problem is they have 8 or 9 NHL dmen signed and only 10 NHL forwards. They need to trade a couple of those dmen for cap friendly forwards.

Wouldnt mind offer sheeting Reilly Smith but i highly doubt Burke would allow the Flames to do any such thing.
