Icon55 Buffalo to compliance buyout Ehrhoff

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
BUF has initiated compliance buyout procedures on Christian Ehrhoff. Not official just yet but BUF has begun the process.

Buffalo will be 19 million below the cap floor.

Buyout will pay Ehrhoff until 2028.

I really have no idea how this team is going to get to the cap floor. Should be interesting.

Kind of surprising. The cap floor must not be of their concern?

There's no penalty, is there?...don't they just have to pay up to the floor?...giving the cash into the NHLPA coffers or something?

If this is true, I wouldn't be making moves to get to the floor either...just stick to the rebuild plan and pay the money, as its going to be paid. Anyway

The language of the CBA says that not meeting the floor is considered circumvention which would result in fines, loss of draft picks, and/or suspension of front office personnel.

No precedence as to how severe the penalty would be.

Move over NYI and Edmonton. There is a new tank in town and they are playing serious.

Still a decent player in the right role on the right team. His contract has to much term and the front loaded nature means probably recapture penalties down the road.

Buffalo must really want McDavid.

This is an odd move... even for the Sabres.

$4 Million doesn't even seem to be a bad dollar amount for Ehrhoff. He'll probably get a similar amount as a free agent. I guess the term made him difficult to trade? Seems like a pure tank move to me.

Strange move.

They'll have to go on a serious spending spree to hit the floor.

Recapture penalties made the contract impossible to keep or trade.

edit: numbers were off

recapture numbers here:

Adam Proteau @Proteautype Follow
Sabres buy out Christian Ehrhoff. To reach the cap floor, they'll need to pay Anton Stralman $10 million a year or trade for the 94 Rangers.

Maybe they will find a couple of skilled Europeans on July 1st and sign them to front loaded long term deals?

These guys are going to throw Sam Reinhart to the wolves this year RNH/Oilers style. I feel sorry for the guy.

I think Erhoff could be a good pick up for the Flames to add defensive depth

I still think he is. If they trade him for assets+salary. Wideman, Jones and a pick/prospect or something. Who knows, the sabres just seem like a joke...

The rumour was at the draft Buffalo wanted a first and 2 other pieces for Myers. Have to think the 2 other pieces they were looking for where not throw away players.
