Flames Flames to compliance buyout SOB

Nick Kypreos @RealKyper
Sounding like #Flames will use compliance buyout on Shane O'Brien. He owed 2.2M for 2014-15 #NHL season.

confirmed:
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Tim Gleason, Anton Volchenkov and Shane O'Brien put on unconditional waivers today

Can't believe we ever traded for this guy.

I will miss his slow motion spinoramas however.

Even retaining 50% of his salary would still have made it a hard trade. The only thing I'm amazed at is that he was not put on waivers the second the buyout period opened.

Feaster was a fan of him but Hartley and obviously Burke weren't. I didn't think he was that terrible (better than Breen) but with the Smid addition he really wasn't needed

We are now 1 mil further from the floor

think most of CP saw this coming either at the time he signed or the time he got waived to the minors for not playing the way he was brought in to play (ie. mean, nasty, physical).

will always be a crappy canuck in my eyes.

The timing makes you wonder if they've got a idea about adding someone when free agency starts up. Seems weird to have waited.

When this is all over we need an 80's English style montage to Treliving and Burke cleaning up Feasters mess:

Wouldn't this be smarter as a regular buyout? Not like this team has cap issues

I am only surprised that this is a compliance buyout.

Maybe. Probably more wishful thinking they could trade him for another buy out player that might have had a slim chance on staying with the flames.

Needed to happen. Don't wish any ill will toward SOB, but I didn't like that trade from day 1. The only thing he was supposed to do was be mean and physical, and he couldn't even do that very well. Don't get me started on David Jones (who tries hard, but can't really hack it).

Regular or compliance buyout, doesn't matter to me. They had 2 to use and they used one. I think they're going to push hard and overpay for a free agent or two and give decent raises to some of the RFAs. I don't think it'll be hard to reach the cap floor at all.
