Yes it does.

Omnibus megathreads are useful, but this is big enough news to warrant its own discussion. Especially since Calgary is inevitably going to be a rumoured destination.

Anything bad happening to another Canadian team justifies its own thread.

Those jerks.

Honestly, looking at Ramo plus our prospects in net, I honestly don't think we need him. If he can be had for cheap, sure but otherwise, I would say no.

If management really wanted a goalie, why didn't we just go after Bernier? (Burke was President of the flames when that happened, right?)

They want Ortio to be the Full time starter in Adirondack this coming season. Burke IIRC said he needed all the minutes he could eat up. Much better to be on the farm than sitting on his butt behind Ramo all season.

Reimer could be a serviceable option with Ramo. Let them battle it out and split the starts.

Easy to see this coming. Reimer leads the Leafs to their first playoff appearance in 7 years then has to ride the pine the next season when he's not deemed good enough. Plus having to deal with the Toronto media asking "Are you going to play the next game?" every night must have been a huge pain in the ass

True, and while that doesn't sound like a bad idea, why not just get a goaltender off the UFA market?

Would rather see them sign Hiller as an FA than trade asset(s) for Riemer

Only if he's cheap. Have no interest in purging ourselves of 2015 picks when we already have a starter, and there are plenty of back up options via UFA.

I'd be shocked if a guy like Chad Johnson can't be signed. He's from Calgary and apparently lives here in the off season still.

Depends on how interested the UFA goalies are responding to the Flames' advances I suppose. Maybe they don't get a bite in the UFA market. Many variables to consider here. And that would be only one of them.

Meh, Reimer would be a decent option, but there is a surplus of backup goalies out there who could probably fill those minutes as well. I would rather keep the assets and pickup Greiss, Montoya, Johnson, Emery, Lindback, Peters, or possibly even Dubnyk instead. Sure Reimer is likely better than the lot of them, but not enough of a difference to negate dealing away the picks and/or serviceable prospects it would take. Heck if Carolina or San Jose wants to give away Ward or Niemi for practically free the Flames should be all over that.

Please NO former Leafs player. When was the last time a former Leaf help us? Stajan is the only one former Leaf in this team and he is meh. I think Lanny McDonald was an exception and it was a long time ago.

They should sign a backup goalie through Free Trade. Sign them for a season or two and that's it.

Wouldn't make a trade until all free agent options have dried up. Why pay for an asset with an asset when you can just pay money for an asset?

Can't wait for Dreger to announce how the Flames offer isn't up to the expectations of the Leafs and how Baertschi or Gaudreau will need to be included in any deal for Reimer.

I would take Reimer as a cap dump he would be a fine goalie to battle with Ramo for the starting job

Wouldn't be opposed to it but only if there are no better FA options
