Default 2013/2014 Stampeders Offseason

Thought I would start an official Stamps offseason thread for news on trades, rumours, signings etc.

To kick it off:

Some Nik Lewis news.

Quote:
Scott Mitchell ‏@SUNMitchell 5h
Nik Lewis says retirement is an option this off-season if he finds a coaching offer he can't refuse #cfl #calstampeders
Quote:

Nik Lewis didn't seem too serious with retirement talk, but he added that he doesn't think he'll be protected in expansion draft. #CFL
Cant believe the Stamps wouldn't protect him. He's in his early 30's and has been a 1,000 yard receiver every year until he had one bad injury for the first time this year.

I'd be choked if he went to Ottawa.

Thoughts?

No kidding.

I didn't expect any of this retirement/non-protected talk to be an issue.

Seems strange.

Kevin Glenn has been extended apparently...though that doesnt mean much in regards to who gets protected in the expansion draft.

Still mildly surprising though.

Protected Imports (1QB + 10):

QB - BLM

DB - Fred Bennett
WR - Mo Price
DB - Keon Raymond
DB - Brandon Smith
WR - Jeff Fuller
DL - Charleston Hughes
DL - Cordarro Law
WR - Nik Lewis
WR - Joe West
OL - Edwin Harrison

Honorable mention: Mayo, Lemon, McDaniel
I think Maver is probably a lock to be picked up by Ottawa which would give us 1 more import to protect - My guess is that spot would be Mayo or McDaniel.

Protected Non-Imports (6):

RB - Jon Cornish
K - Rene Paredes
OL - Dimitri Tsoumpas
OL - Brett Jones
OL - Dan Federkeil
OL - Jon Gott

Honorable mention: Spencer Wilson, Johnny Forzani, Corey Mace, Brad Sinopoli
Now here is where it gets interesting. If they take Tate or Glenn in the 1st round, we can protect 2 more non-imports.

There are other interesting things in round 3: Member Clubs will then submit a second list of an additional six Non-Import players for protection. If a Member Club lost a Non-Import kicker or punter in the first round of the Non-Import Draft, such Member Club would submit two additional Non-Import player names for protection.

Let me know what you guys think and if I am missing anyone obvious. I could also be messing up a few things in regards to the expansion draft.

I dont think there is any way that HUf only protects 5 defensive guys....while protecting 4 WR....just not gonna happen that way.

I would suggest Spencer Wilson is a must potect guy along with Corey Mace and one of Johnson and Bolden.

Any news on Dimitri Tsoumpas and his concussion issues?

I obviously want him back on the Stampeders, but I am wondering if he is worth protecting if it could be career threatening.

^ You would protect Older, oft injured, now an interior lineman in Harrison over our top lineman in Bryant this year?

Brandon Smith should NOT be protected, he was chasing a guy heading into the end zone way too much this year, replace him.

Both Mayo and Simpson will be protected.

My 10 will from the other thread:

1) Nik Lewis
2) Mo Price / Jeff Fuller
3) Jo West / Jeff Fuller
4) Stanley Bryant
5) Charleston Hughes
6) Cordero Law
7) Deron Mayo
8) Juwan Simpson
9) Keon Raymond
10) Jamar Wall

Non-imports

1) Jon Cornish
2) Brett Jones
3) Dmitri Tsoumpas
4) Rene Parades
5) Corey Mace
6) Spencer Wilson
7*) Jon Gott

Tsoumpas would be a guarantee to be picked if left unprotected. Ottawa would pick him and then trade him to Edmonton.

I would argue that they won't protect Simpson or Raymond.

Tsoumpas would probably retire if he was traded to Edmonton

There are some bitter memories from Edmonton and the taxi cab story

Simpson is one of the worst middle linebackers in the cfl he better not be protected.

I'd be shocked if the Stamps protected Simpson. I also can't see the Stamps protecting 4 import receivers. To me the odd guy out is either West or Lewis

Not saying we should protect Simpson, but he is not one of the worst middle linebackers in the league, imo.

How many tackles did he make? How was he at stopping the run? When was the last he made a big play?
