Kind of feels like that bridge contract is coming back in the NHL.

Why pay him $6 million now when he's not earning it? If the Oilers model was so great they wouldn't be perennial losers.

I wonder if this means Couturier is goig to be available at some point soon. I'd really like the flames to pick him up if at all possible

Well, I'm starting to wish we didn't give Brodie a bridge contract.

But I guess he may not have developed like he did this past season if he was already making $5M.

Flames have lots of flexibility to lock him up if they feel he's worth it. Like I said before I think some teams got ahead of themselves locking up some of their top prospects to big money too early as it's clearly caused an issue of self-entitlement in Edmonton which has caused locker room issues and has made Eberle in particular into a pretty lazy player. It hasn't helped Tyler Myers in Buffalo getting the big contract early.
