Agree, but voted Kopitar. Of the three, Toews is the one I'd most want on my team, but I think Kopitar is the best on defense.

Toews is my favourite player, but Kopitar had an amazing year. It's his time.

I'd like to see Kopitar, but I think it will be Bergeron.

Kopitar.
Look at his +/- compared to his teammates and you instantly see his was NOT inflated by a team's overall defensive play or systems. You could make the case that Bergeron, while great defensively and was dominant on the dot with an amazing 58.6% FO%, had a similar +/- to a lot of his teammates.
That and Kopitar was the much better offensive player, which they always seem to take into account.

I voted for Toews, but you're right, it's easy to make a case for Kopitar.
On the subject of Kopitar's offensive game, he was LA's leading scorer for both of their cup runs, and he's been their top regular season scorer for the last 7 seasons straight. The last guy to finish first other that Kopitar was Cammy back in 06-07 with his 80 point season and Kopitar was a 19 year old rookie.

I would have voted for Kopitar as he had an excellent playoffs but you can only count the regular season so I voted for Toews for his excellent Olympics.
Bottom line is all three of these players are great and could win.

Selke does not include playoff performances, correct?
In which case I have to go with Toews.
Yes, Kopitar had an incredible playoffs, but that's what the Conn Smyth is for.

Given that it's more of a 2-way forward award rather than a defensive forward one, I'd say it has to be Kopitar. He can play tough defensive minutes against other teams' top players and still produce ES on/off ice numbers like this:
On ice:
GF/60: 3.14
GA/60: 1.39
+/-: +1.74
Off ice:
GF/60: 1.71
GA/60: 1.80
+/-: -0.09
Pretty amazing that LA had a negative goal differential this year at even strength when Kopitar was on the bench. And that's not an anomaly either, as the numbers hold up whether you go back over the last 3-5 years. Just goes to show how important of a player he is for that team.

I don't know that Olympics performance is going to be taken into account for an NHL award.

Bergeron has the least votes? Crazy, since he's probably going to be the one that actually wins it.

It shouldn't, but it isn't like the voters are going to admit it if they do take Sochi into account.

Based on perfermance I would give it to Toews.
But this seems to be a trophy more about rewarding guys who haven't won big trophies before/that year so I think that Kopitar gets it since Bergeron and Toews already have won it.
