Should we offer sheet him another 6.5 come July first? Worst case scenario COL has to overpay him again. Thoughts?

Isn't the worst case scenario Colorado passes, and we lose a chance at McDavid next year? Can you imagine Colorado with Mckinnon AND McDavid?

Actually worst case would be losing our 2015 1st round pick and then end up giving McDavid, Eichel or Hanifin to Colorado.

If you think he is worth a potential top 10 pick, top 40, and top 70 pick in the 2015 draft. Also potentially a 2016 1st.

I'm all on board for targeting Ryan O'Reilly.... but not via offer sheet. Maybe we can get him at a slightly reduced price if we take Parenteau off their hands too?
Now I'm not sure what it would cost to acquire him (4OA would be asked for I'm sure... worth it though?), but having O'Reilly, Mono and Backs up the middle would be pretty awesome! Worth kicking the tires on in any case. If the price isn't insane, he would be an awesome addition, and exactly the kind of move management is looking for to expedite our rebuild (ie: young enough but already established).

Team with lottery potential should never make big RFA offers... period. Any player worth a top 3 pick will have the offer matched, and if the player isn't worth that, you will give up way more than the player is worth.
RFA offersheets are for teams in the playoffs that are likely to draft outside of the top 10.

You don't make offer sheets when you are expected to be in a top five draft position. You might make an offer sheet when you are expected to vie for the cup, so you're draft position would be in the late 20s.

Umm, I thought you couldn't offer sheet a player who is going to arbitration?

You have until July 5th to offer sheet a player going to club-elected salary arbitration.
One of the new quirks of the CBA.
Player elected arbitration automatically makes a player ineligible for offer sheets.

No offer sheet. Although I'd be very interested to get him in trade if the price was right.

Absolutely no Offersheeting him at this time, but I am a huge fan and would give up a lot to get him in a trade.
Pieces that I would include in some combination in order to get O'reilly:
-Both 2014 seconds
-2015 second
-any prospect not named Gaudreau
-Backlund, Hudler, Wideman (-25%)
How about 2014 34 overall, 2015 second rounder, Sven, Hudler for Oreilly and maybe a cap dump like Parentau
I feel like that is a pretty substantial offer and perhaps opens the door for the Avs to re-sign Sastny.

Offer sheets should be reserved for teams that have a good chance of making the playoffs. Rebuilding teams should never (especially going into the second year)consider an offer sheet when the compensation is multiple high picks.

And this is after one season. Just wait until the end of years two and three.

We should offer sheet him then just out him on waivers. That way everyone wins...don't they?

I'd trade a 1st+ for him, but not next year's. Therefore, no offer sheet. Huge fan of the player though.
