Default Using Aereo in Canada (TV Streaming)

Aereo (https://aereo.com/)is a pretty interesting way to watch TV that seems to be gaining more traction and increased media coverage. Basically they have very small antennas in a bunch of major cities in the States receiving OTA TV signals. They offer an online service where you can access these OTA signals on a variety of devices and even include an online PVR. Cost starts at $8/month.

The FAQ says you have to have a Credit Card with a Zipcode based in the city you're trying to access these streams from. I'm sure there must be a way around this and someone from say - Calgary - could pay for this service and have access to these channels. As happy as I am as a cord-cutter I wouldn't mind having a few extra channels to choose from from every now and then.

Any advice how one would go about this? Is anyone using this service and have any first hand experiences they would care to share?

They are under significant threat from a Supreme Court lawsuit from the major cable networks. I believe they will be shut down soon

Actually, they said they are cautiously optimistic that the Supreme Court will allow them to keep going.

Very interesting discussion on macbreak weekly this week on that case. From the sounds of it they actually have a reasonable shot at winning. When you break it down, why they do is actually within the law.

Part of it being legal though is ensuring that you MUST be in the region. Perhaps there's a way to bend it so it'd work here, but I'd be surprised.

Hard to imagine it not going this way.
Legally redistributing (for a fee) copyright content you obtained for free?
Not likely

Didn't really think it would last.

But it did prove that people like that method of watching TV. Hopefully the stupid cable companies do something with it now.

Unlikely though.
