Still, probably deserves its own thread. I dont tend to wade into too many mega-threads.

Mentioned elsewhere, but I suppose it is thread worthy.

I wouldn't hate 'm and we could handle his cap hit, but I don't think we could afford the assets to get him.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Calgary is on his list of 'No Dice.'

Hes old, hes already 30, by the time we'd need him in 3-5 he'd probably be retiring.

Anaheim should be all over him.

A new contender has entered the McDavid race.

I don't think he's worth what it would cost to get him, and he's not really going to amp up the physicality of this team.

Having Spezza, Monahan, Backlund, and Stajan would arguably give us one of the best and deepest centre collections in the league.

Who are we trading to them for Spezza? Because I don't want to give up much.

His NMC clause is a list of 10 teams. Rumour has it, he wants to play in the US, so you can rule out the 5 other Canadian clubs. That would leave room for 5 American teams to be on the list, assuming that he uses all 10 spots in the clause.

I would bet the Islanders are on the list too, but if not, I could see them being interest. Florida is another team that seems to want players that can play now.

Sens want a 1st round pick, a prospect and a roster player back. Flames can't afford to pay that, even if it made sense for a rebuilding team to acquire a 30 year old, injury prone center.

Plus the Flames are probably on his list of teams he won't accept a trade to. Doesn't make sense from either side.

I know we all like to forget about Winnipeg, but it's 6 other Canadian teams. So which 4 us teams would be on the list? Islanders, Columbus, maybe Buffalo and Florida?

Somehow I doubt Toronto is on the list.

I think Anaheim would give their 24th OA and a prospect for Spezza.

Ottawa probably wants to get back in the first round, and the only way is to accept a late 1st. Spezza only has a year left on his contract, so it shouldn't matter that much.

If the Sens are looking to remain competitive... maybe a Thornton for Spezza swap?

i wonder if the ducks would give back the senators 1st round pick straight up for spezza?

Spezza who only has 1 year on his contract for a top10 draft pick this year.

Senators sorta overachieved after year 1 of their rebuild where they made the playoffs out of nowhere. Now they seem like a team lost in direction. Are they going youthful and building a contender that route, or are they a bubble team just a piece or two away. The ryan trade made last year makes it appear they thought they were the latter. However, moving spezza may force them to go back to continuing the rebuild....
