Gwynn had one of the best pure swings in all of baseball, a real treat to watch hit. SAd to see him go, the man just loved baseball.
That early 90's Padre lineup was great. Fernadez, McGriff, Sheffield, Gwynn.

Gwynn had six straight seasons (and eight altogether) in which he struck out fewer than 20 times. Did you know there were 97 hitters in the big leagues who whiffed at least 20 times just last month?

IIRC he got his 3000th career hit in Montreal. Which was a shame because it was the worst park in the majors, and no one was there to see it. He really was making a serious run at hitting 400 until the 94 Strike ended the season.
Sad day, he was one of the great hitters of all time for sure, ran pretty well for a guy who appeared to be a touch hefty too.
